If you are talking about brakes, and the noise is a clicking sound, then you have drum brakes on the rear of your car. The springs in them break sometimes and causes a clicking noise. If it is a rubbing noise and you can feel a vibration in the steering wheel when you hit the brakes, it is a front rotor that is warped. If you haven't had a brake job in a couple of years, then your due.

I own a 1997 honda civic dx sedan 5 speed. i dont know if my car has ABS.. it doesnt show on dashboard.... how can i know if it has ABS

when you first start your car, all of the lights on the dashboard should light up -- if there is no ABS light there, you probably do not have ABS on your car. The slightly more risky way to test it would be to take the car out on an unused access road and go about 20 to 25 miles per hour, then slam the breaks as hard as you can. If the tires squeal on the road, then you do not have ABS. Please make sure you are going to be safe if you try to test your breaks -- make sure there are no other cars on the road ... make sure the road is wide enough that if your car skids to one side or the other that you will not hit anything ... make sure that your wheels are straight when you hit the breaks so you do not lose control. If you do not have ABS, you should perform a controlled skid ... if you do, your car will not skid, and for just a moment you should feel your breaks take control for you (slight pumping motion of the pedal under your foot).
Generally, if there is ABS in a car, there is a light on the dashboard to warn you when the system is not working properly, so if you don't have a warning light, you don't have ABS.

Brake light on dash comes on and remains on for awhile, then goes off.

Is your emergency break catching? Do you feel drag? Are you hearing any noises from the breaks? Have you checked the break fluid?

2003 chevy s10, i have had the brake shoes and drums replaced. i do a lot of stop and go and at times the truck will skid and sometimes it feel as if the brakes are catching and releasing as i am pressing...

If you have driven more than 100 mi. since brake overhaul your likely cause is Brake return spring off , disconnected or bent. Pull off both drums and check out the return spring and adjust brakes. You're done...most likely

ABS brakes shudder

YOU NEED A SCANNER TO MONITOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE ABS IS SENSING A SKID AND THE ABS IS ACTIVATED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THERE MAY BE A CODE FOR THE HUB THAT IS CAUSING THE ABS TO ACTIVATE.

CHECK THE WIRES FROM THE SENSORS FOR BREAKS OR CHAFFING. AN OHM READING OF THE SENSOR SHOULD BE 850-1200 OHMS, AND AND A-C VOLTAGE READING SHOULD BE 100 MV WITH YOU TURNING THE WHEEL BY HAND.

Pulsing sound and feel from wheels

Ok, if the wheel bearing assembly was installed incorrectly the wheel would wobble and you would have a disconcerting feeling in the steering wheel. The rotors have to be within factory specs to be turned safely. What I would do is have the rotors checked with a micrometer and replaced.
