Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD

1 Answer

I have a 1997 ford explorer, after putting a new a/c compressor on it, and driving it for about 20 minutes, i wont crank back up, i put a new starter, starter coil, and a new battery on it but it still wont turn over, it's just a clicking noise coming from what i think is the master cylinder which is located right beside the starter coil, and when my drivers side door is open, when i sit down in it or the truck shakes a little bit, the interior lights flicker, i've been working on this thing all day and cant figure out what it is, does anyone know what this could be?

Check the ignition and power fuses under the hood and check the crank fuse under the dash. Also when the lights flicker , it sounds like you may have left a wire loose or off, check around the battery.

My daughter has a 2002 explorer "Eddie Bauer" and the compressor is locked tight. I am assuming I need to replace it or could it be something else? Any suggestions?

if the clutch locked up rec.replacing with new compressor assembly and having the ac lines flushed just to make sure all metal debris if any is removed otherwise it could result in failure of new compressor

No current to ac compressor

A mechanic would start at the compressor and work back.
Did you jumper the low pressure switch, or the relay, or put power directly to the ac clutch ?
You have a low pressure switch that should be closed and a high pressure switch that should be closed to put power to the compressor clutch. If the freon pressure drops below 20psi the low switch opens, if it goes above 300 psi the high switch opens.

Sounds like you have a pulley locked up. Did the belt break? If not, it could have just flowed over the locked pulley without breaking. Take the belt off and spin check all the pulley's. You will find it. Was you running the air compressor?
