Just google for "bimmer forums" or similar items. There are a bunch out there and very helpful. I do know those engines do have a certain technique to replacing them, but most BMW's are fairly simple. (I am not sure of the exact proceedures for a z3) They are just very different from US cars.

Well your engine belt is either very lose or has broken completely. If you were to look on the front of the engine were your fan is you should find your alternator and power steering pump belt.

When steering its hard to turneither way and battery and brake light comes on

sounds like your fan belt is slipping ! hence that why the battery light comes on because alternator isnt turning or turning slowly and your power steering pump wont be turning also ,,,making steering difficult ! fan belts can be adjusted at the alternator i think thanks :)

I believe a belt fell off my car, making the steering extremely difficult, and also causing my red generator light to blink on and off. Can I still drive the car short distances without hurting the...

M mostly an expert on passat v6 engines but the it was the timing belt you wouldn't be going an inch over. M not sure if it use the same belt as timing belt but base on what you are describing yes the belt or fluid ( power steering) seem to be fault. No I would not drive it because of serious safety reason and also damage to steering parts and pump. if that belt broken off or damage that mean you timing could be on it's way. When that happen say good buy to the motor. The altering isn't charging the battery there for would show bad alternator sign. If the same belt turn the fan( if u have one) pump, ac, could signal those errors.

Fan/ alt. belt broken. Difficulty of replacement?

I'm assuming you have the 4cyl ... 22RE. On my truck the biggest problem was loosening the bolt that the alternator pivots on ... difficult to get at. I found one of the small palm type ratchets helpful. As I recall this belt is the innermost so you will have to remove the A/C and power steering belts to replace it. It's probably time to replace them all if one broke any way. The outer two have tensioners and so they're easy to adjust/remove ... the alternator you need to pry on it some to get the tension and then tighten the bolt that holds it in place ... and then tighten the previously mentioned pivot bolt. By the time you remove the splash pan to access the bottom etc you'll put a fair amount of time into the project but it's not difficult. And you'll know how to re-tension the belts when the time comes.

Need a fan belt changing diagram for an 86 olds cutless supreme

mcdevito75 here, I don:"t think there is a fan belt changeing diagram for your 86" you can order the new belts and mark them Water pump, alternator, power steering. as you order them. The power steering pump is the most difficult to loosen and tighten, you"ll also need a crowbar to hold the various units tight after you install the new belts as the belts can"t be too lose nor too tight. Best bet let your local shop change the belts they last a good while and you have the piece of mind all is adjusted correct.

Battery not chargin, and drive weel so hard to rurn.

Check your accessory (fan) belt. To have both your alternator and power steering not working at the same time sounds like a broken fan belt. Good luck and replace the fan belt.

Alternator belt replacement of 1989 Toyota pickup truck . there are 2 belts to get past before we can replace the alternator belt. How is best to remove first two belts.

Start with the power steering belt it takes a 12 mm socket for the bolt in the power steering . also loosen the bolt on the power steering pump pulley. remove the radiator lower fan shroud. It just clips in. pull the power steering belt around the fan and out of the engine compartment then do the a/c belt. That is the best way I know how.
