Question about 1999 Ford Escort

1 Answer

On a 99 ford escort. where is the fuel pressure regulator at?My car will not stay started. Runs as long as you keep the pedal pressed. If you let up it dies. Have looked on the fuel rail but there is not one. What else could be wrong? Fuel pump sounds to be working and getting gas.

2004 chevy cavalier wi'll not start unless I keep my foot on gas. Then it will start but won't stay running until it warms up. While driving it runs fine untill you brare then it stalls out.

Pressing the pedal down, puts in clear flood mode. Any applicable trouble codes? Did you use a gage and check correct fuel pressure, also, see if pressure will hold for a bit, with everything off. If it drops like a rock you have fuel leak. Pull vac line off fuel pressure regulator, where applicable, if fuel runs out, you have a faulty fuel pressure regulator. You could have fuel injector leak?
Smell of your crankcase oil dipstick, if it smells like gas, either you don't change your oil and filter very often or fuel leak. There could be other issues? You have to start testing, somewhere.

1995 ford escort keeps burning up fuel pumps they get hot and quit I put a air tech pump in bosch in I replaced filter now a relay and fuel pressure regulator if its got one is the next step any ideas

Sounds like a bad pressure regulator. The regulator is suppose to adjust the pump speed to match demand. Some units work by counting the RPM with a crankshaft sensor. Check fuel pressure at test port. Sometimes the pressure needs to be adjusted when changing a pump.

99 escort fuel pressure slowly drop to 0 after shutting off. turns over longer before starting. What holds fuel pressure after shutting off?

Hi Rusty, The fuel pressure is regulated by a special device on the end of the fuel rail. (That is the fitting on top of the injectors and carries the fuel under extreme pressure) If the regulator is leaking it will allow fuel to by pass and return directly to the tank. You can check it by squeezing the rubber fuel return pipe with pliers while the engine is running, or before starting. Crank the engine until it starts and then clamp before turning off. Restart the engine and if it starts easily you'll have located the defective part. Regards Johngee10

Ford f150 2003 - engine stalls during start-up, only stays on if gas pedal is pressed during start.

It sounds like it is getting too much fuel. Holding down the gas does the opposite of what you may think, it shuts the fuel flow off on fuel injected cars. You may have a leaking fuel injector or a bad fuel pressure regulator.

1993 Ford escort wagon replaced fuel pump but still cannot get car to start. turns over, runs as long as you pour gas into carburatorl

the fuel filter may be clogged, and not letting fuel through, if not that check the fuel pressure regulator.when vehicle is turned off, you get a delay in building up sufficiant fuel pressure the next time you try to start it. check fuel filter first. then go from there.
