The remote starter I installed works and starts the car when i push the button. however when I try to start the car with the key, it does not crank. I turned on the head lights and tried to start the car and the head lights did not flicker. I disconnected the remote starter and tried to crank the car and it still wont work but when i connected the remote starter back, and pushed the button, it started so that makes me know that the starter and ignition is working properly. I'm not sure how else to trouble shoot, to know what is wrong and how to fix it. i drive a 1999 acura 3.2TL and the remote starter i installed is autopage rstke-900. Thanks for you help

by not cranking I mean when I turn the key to start the car, it does not "kick" engage the starter. I just hear a click sound. I did cut the wire like the manual said and wired it through the remote starter relay. Is there a way I can check to see if the ignition switch is the problem? or what else can I do to further isolate the problem. Thanks

  • Dennis A Nov 14, 2010

I did not completely disconnect the entire remote starter, That's a lot of work man! what I did was rejoin the 2 wires I cut like the manual instructed. The rest, I just pulled out the harnes from the remote start. I figured since with the rest since I just attached the remote start wires to the car wires, it wont hurt anything to just disconnect the harness from the remote starter. How can I isolate the problem, like check with a probe and stuff.

  • Dennis A Nov 14, 2010

I used a bypass and the remote starts works just fine only thing is that the alarm goes off when i start the car even though I followed the exact description from the manual so for that I may have to call autopage and find out if its a programing issue. but as far as starting the car I dont think it gets 12 when I turn the key to start reason is (even though I have not probed it yet) I did a quick test which is turn on the head lights and try to start it and the head light did not flicker at all.

I found the problem. the relay that was used to wire the ignition diconect was connected wrongly. Thanks for your help

I found out that I needed to program that remote starter to disable the car alarm just before it starts the car so that problem is fixed. I have 2 more problems and I was just going to take a chance and see if you could help. The horns do not work anymore but when I push the lock key on the remote, I hear the chirp so that tells me the horn itself is not faulty. I've checked the horn fuse and its not blown so I'm lost as to what is going wrong. The other problem is that the fuse for my back right window keeps blowing up each time I start the car with the remote starter. So I do not know what to check and how to solve the problem. I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

By not crank with the key do you mean the starter won't work or the starter turns the engine but the car doesn't run? If the starter isn't turning the engine it sounds like you used the ignition disable function of the remote starter. You would have had to cut the start wire in half and wired it to a relay or used the existing relay on the remote starter unit. If it isn't wired correctly, the start wire from the ignition (key) is interrupted. It is also possible the remote starter is in a disable mode that prevents the vehicle from starting with the key. Since I can't look at your wiring I can't tell you if it is done right. You might want to also check the remote starter manual for information on starter disable to see if you can disable that feature.

So the car will not start when you reconnect the wires? You should get 12 volts on the start wire when you turn the key to 'start'.

Also, the Acura uses a transponder system to disable the car if someone tries to start it without the key. Did you use a transponder bypass module with this install? You would have had to use a spare key in the module.

Which alarm is going off? The factory alarm or the one on the remote start? The remote start alarm shouldn't go off if you disconnect the ignition harness because that is how it senses the ignition has been turned on. Some factory alarms need to see a ground impulse to disarm, usually the door unlock, or it will trigger the alarm when the car is started. The ignition disable could be a result of the factory alarm if your vehicle has one. Most of them are passive and don't require active arming so you wouldn't be arming it yourself, it would do so when you turn the car off. I still think you should test the start wire for 12 volts because if you are getting it there, then you know your ignition switch is good and that your problem lies elsewhere.

Double check the wiring connections that were made to put the remote start in place. One or more of them is not correct and is interfering with the ignition switch. The only other answer would be a faulty ignition switch if the vehicle starts from the remote but doesn't start with key.

If you removed the remote starter from the equation and all of it's connections and it still won't start with the key, then the ignition switch is the problem. You eliminate the remote starter as a cause if you remove it and all of it's connections and you still have the problem and that only leaves the one place left to look, the ignition switch itself.

When I put the key in the ignition it doesn't try to start everything else comes on then shuts off. I drove it yesterday but now it won't work

The remote starter module is not getting an electrical signal when you turn the key to the on position after remote stating the vehicle. When you depress the brake without turning the key on the vehicle shuts down. The remote module thinks the key is off even when you turn it on. There is a loose connection or the remote start device is defective.

Starter wont crank on a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue

Check your manual if you have it. I believe you need to have the key in the ignition in the ON position for about 10 minutes to reset the security system.

if you enter the car after you used remote starter, dont depress your brake.you need to put your key(insert) into your igniton barrel
and turn it in to ON possition(dont crank the starter) now you can depress your brake to cancel the remote start.and your door lock and trunk maybe the installer didnt connect the wiring from remote starter to your car...

I have an o3 ford escape with an aftermarket autopage remote start system.when i try to use the remote start it flashes the parking lights and all the accesories fire up but will not ingauge the starter....

the issue is the securilock system I installed one in my 03. You need a spare coded key (one that starts the vehicle) and a Bulldog 791 kit. ths will store the spare key and tell the vehicle it is not being stolen. Its the only way unless you want to leave your key in the ignition. BTW, the Theft light is on when you engage the remote started w/o the key in the ignition, Been there.

Remote car starter will not start car

It sounds to me like you're missing a wire. There should be a wire leading to this that sends power to the distributor. If you don't have power to the distributor it won't fire it will just continue to crank over.

Color of wire from start key switch to solenoid

Fords use under hood mounted starter relays. They look like a mine withe 2 large threaded posts abd two small threaded posts. Ignore the two large cable posts. If only one small post has a wire on it, remove wire and try to start engine. If no crank, put back on and try cranking. If it cranks then that is the wire you will put juice to with the other side of the in hand momentary button" connectected to the hot big past. Battery cable big post. Note! momentary button only. be safe, you will be too far from the brakes. Always block wheels. set parking brake. make sure trans is in neutral or in park Do not use remote starter while standing in front of the vehicle or while under the vehicle.

We have a 2007 Entourage and you cannot lock it with the car running. We installed a remote starter and it will not lock the doors when it is remotely started. Can this feature be disabled?

i think that this is to prevent you from locking your keys in the car with the engine running.
Some remote starters have a feature that when the car is running (and in park) you can hit the remote start button twice for one second each - then you can take the key out of the ignition and still have the car running.
At this point....if you would hit the 'lock' button on your door the doors would immediately unlock. However, if you get out of the car and close the door leaving it unlocked and then you hit the 'lock' on your original car remote the doors will lock and stay locked. So now the car is running the doors are locked and you have the keys in your hands. Then you can run into the store or house real quick with your car locked.
Once you come back, you hit 'unlock' on the original car remote. the doors will unlock - you can get it - and then before hitting the brake put the key in the ignition and turn it (dont crank it) as if you had when originally using the remote starter.
Maybe this will work for you.....
