Question about 2008 Nissan Maxima

Entered my '08 Maxima with sensor in my handbag but ignition switch would not turn. Exited the vehicle, re-armed the vehicle, but no luck. Kept trying and eventually it just simply turned and engine started. Any suggestions?

Yes could be that your steering wheel was locked or that the battery was going dead in the key fob(this is very common trial and error) . if it happens again while trying to turn the ignition push the wheel back and forth left to right because the steering column is locked for theft deterent.

How do I keep my car on?


There are many things that can cause the vehicle to stall/not start. The 2 most common are lack of fuel and lack of spark. Possible fuel pump issue or relay/wiring to fuel pump. This can be checked/ruled out by performing a fuel pressure test. Another common issue with this vehicle for stalling/no start is a crankshaft position sensor that will cause an ignition spark failure. Have the codes scanned as this sensor will usually set/store a code before you throw any more parts at it

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes ( the vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock?"¢ Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK).
  6. Important: The vehicle learns the Passlock?"¢ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
  7. Start the engine (the vehicle has now learned the Passlock?"¢ Sensor Data Code and/or password).
  8. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed (history DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles).

LEARN MODE CANCELLATION
The TPM system will cancel the learn mode if more then 2 minutes have passed and no sensors have been learned, or if the system has been in learn mode for more than 5 minutes. If the learn mode is canceled before any sensor has been learned, the PDM will remember all current sensor IDs and their locations.

CAUTION: Before proceeding with the steps below, ensure that no other sensor learn procedure is being performed simultaneously, or that tire pressures are not being adjusted on a TPM equipped vehicle within close proximity.

STEP BY STEP:
  1. Turn "ON" the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Apply the parking brake. IMPORTANT: If the learn mode cannot be enabled, ensure the TPM system is enabled in the PDM.
  3. Turn the exterior lamp switch from "OFF" to parking lamps 4 times within 4 seconds. A horn chirp will sound and the low tire pressure light will begin to flash indicating the learn mode has been enabled.
    CAUTION: Over inflating tires may cause personal injury or damage to the tires and wheels. When increasing tire pressure do not exceed the maximum inflation pressure as noted on the tire sidewall.
    IMPORTANT: If a horn chirp does not sound after 35 seconds for any of the 4 sensors, turn the ignition "OFF" to exit the learn mode and repeat the procedure from step 1.
  4. Starting with the left front tire, increase or decrease the pressure for 8-10 seconds, or until a horn chirp sounds. The horn chirp may occur before the 8-10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached, or up to 30 seconds after the 8-10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached.
  5. After the horn chirp has sounded, proceed as in step 4 for the next 3 sensors in the following order:

    Right front
    Right rear
    Left rear
  6. After all sensors have been learned, exit the learn mode by turning "OFF" the ignition.
  7. After the learn mode has been exited, adjust all tire pressures to the recommended psi
  8. After adjusting all tire pressures to the recommended psi, run the tire pressure check in the DIC to see that the correct pressure is listed.

Nissan Maxima 2004 won't accelerate. It runs well up to 2000rpm then will not go any faster. The engine fault light is on. The error seems to be related to the airflow intake. A mechanic who was too busy...


1st, you should get the Engine Controls (EC) section of the service manual. You can download it HERE

Now you need get the diagnostic codes from your vehicle. The procedure is:

HOW TO SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE
NOTE:

- It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
- It is impossible to switch the diagnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position sensor circuit
has a malfunction.
- Always ECM returns to Diagnostic Test Mode 1 after ignition switch is turned OFF.
How to Set Diagnostic Test Mode II (Self-diagnostic Results)
(key in the on position, engine off)
1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the MIL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal.

The check engine light will then flash the 4 digits of the code. (refer to (EC) page 68)

Or you can go to an autozone and ask them to scan your vehicle for codes. They will do it for free.

Once you have the diagnostic codes, you can find the code info and diagnostic procedures in the (EC) manual.

2002 nissan maxima showing codes p0430 and p1572. How Do I fix these problem?


P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

Basically this means that the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 2 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.

Symptoms: You will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a rough/hard idle when cold.

Causes: A code P0430 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly
* An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
* There is an exhaust leak

Possible Solutions:
* First, inspect for exhaust leaks.
* Next step is to measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on Bank 2. In fact, it would be a good idea to test each oxygen O2 sensor while you're at it.

One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.



P1572 - ASCD Brake Switch Circuit Malfunction
For check ASCD BRAKE SWITCH POWER SUPPLY
- Turn ignition switch OFFDisconnect ASCD brake switch (2) harness connector Stoplamp switch (1) Turn ignition switch ON
- Check voltage between ASCD brake switch terminal and ground under the following conditions with CONSULT-II or testerCONDITION VOLTAGE Battery voltage Approx. 0V

More than likely the brake pedal cancellation switch is bad.

How do i reset my alarm on a 97 jeep Grand


Here is excerpt from the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Service Manual ... i know you posted under 1997 JGC but this information may be helpful ... by "reset alarm" i believe you meant disarming the alarm?

Arming
Passive arming of the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) occurs when the vehicle is exited with the key removed from the ignition switch, the headlamps are turned off, and the doors are locked using power lock switch. The power lock switch will not function if the key is in the ignition switch or the headlamps are on with the driver’s door open. The VTSS will not arm if either front door or the liftgate are locked using the key in the lock cylinder.
Active arming of the VTSS occurs when the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is used to lock the vehicle, even if the doors and/or the liftgate are open when the RKE transmitter Lock button is depressed. However, the VTSS arming will not be complete until all the doors and the liftgate are closed.
Following successful passive or active VTSS arming, the VTSS set lamp on the top of the instrument panel will flash rapidly for about 15 seconds after the illuminated entry system times out. This indicates that the VTSS arming is in progress. If the light stays on steadily during the arming, it indicates that the hood switch is closed (the hood is open). The VTSS will still arm if the hood is open, but the engine compartment will not be protected. Once the 15 second arming function is complete, the set lamp will flash at a slower rate to indicate that the VTSS is armed. Disarming Passive disarming of the Vehicle Theft Security Sytem (VTSS) occurs when the vehicle is unlocked using the key to unlock either front door or the liftgate. Active disarming of the VTSS occurs when the vehicle is unlocked by depressing the Unlock button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. Once the alarm has been activated (horn sounding, exterior lights flashing, and the the engine no-run feature), either disarming method will also deactivate the alarm. Depressing the Panic button on the RKE transmitter will also disarm the VTSS, but the horm will sound and teh exterior lamps will flash for about three minutes as a part of the Panic feature function. ..." And as an additional note, if you have the courtesy interior lights set at 30 seconds like i do, you have to wait until lights go out (with alarm still sounding) before you can disarm the alarm via passive disarm method... what a pain when you don't have the actual RKE handy... When battery was unhooked, the security system came on and locked out the ignition. Car wont start.


 If you have the second ignition key's with you try it.  If not try this, it takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Immobiliser is not turning off and not allowing the engine to start


is it a stick immobiliser?
If your vehicle does not start and the LED continues to flash while the Ignition is 'ON', this means that the Immobiliser system has not recognised the transponder stick.
Simply turn the Ignition 'OFF' then back 'ON' again. If the Status LED continues to flash, move the transponder stick closer to the key barrel until the LED stops flashing and turns 'OFF'.
If the transponder stick on the key ring does not disarm the immobiliser or the
transponder stick is misplaced, you can override the system by entering a 5-digit override number. Each vehicle has a unique 5-digit override number. This number is recorded on the
customer’s owner’s manual. If the customer loses their owner’s manual / override number, the number can be found by locating the vehicle’s Daewoo Stock Number (D.S.N). The customers override number is the last 5 digits of their D.S.N.

Important Note: 10 flashes of the Status LED represent the number ‘0’.
1. Remove the Transponder from the Key Ring.
2. With the system armed (LED flashing slowly) Turn the ignition ON/OFF 5 times, with the final position being off.
3. The LED will turn solid red for 2 seconds and then begin to flash.
4. When the LED flashes twice (2), turn the ignition ON. (number 2 was entered)
5. Turn the ignition OFF and wait for the LED to flash once (1) and then turn the ignition ON. (number 1 was entered)
6. Turn the ignition OFF and wait for the LED to flash ten (10) times and then turn the ignition ON. (number 0 was entered)
7. Turn the ignition OFF and wait for the LED to flash six (6) times and then turn the ignition ON. (number 6 was entered)
8. Turn the ignition OFF and wait for the LED to twice (2) and then turn the ignition ON.(number 2 was entered) The LED will turn solid red, which means the system is now overridden and the vehicle can be started. If an incorrect number is entered in, wait 11 flashes then start the procedure again.
NOTE: This is a one-event override. Once the ignition is turned off, the vehicle will passively immobilise after 30 seconds. If your 5 digit override number does not override the system, the chances are that you entered the wrong number. If this is the case, you’ll need to re-enter the override number
and try it again.

2008 Wrangler Unlimited: Will not start after a short drive.


Seen this problem before. Here is your solution im the foreman for a jeep dealership.

During cranking/starting, the ignition switch voltage should drop to about 0.4 to 0.5volts and the switch status should show start/crank. If the ignition switch status shows FF, that is an undermined switch status. The ignition switch voltage is supplied by a voltage regulator (5volts) with-in the WCM (WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE). This regulator not only feeds the ignition switch with voltage, but if the vehicle has remote start, it all so powers the WCM antenna. So, items that affect the ignition switch voltage readings would include the power or ground circuits to the WCM, ignition switch and the WCM antenna. The WCM antenna can short and take down the ignition switch voltage. A shorted antenna can cause issues with the WCM functioning properly, i.e. starting and or key programming. Check antenna wire for damage or try and unplug the WCM antenna and recheck the ignition switch voltage.
Take this copy to your dealership and check for radio interference. Good luck with your wrangler got an 08 4 door rubicon I have not had this problem with mine yet. Hope this helps you please rate it.
