It is done electronically, you will need to have a scan tool to access the on board computor. the dealer uses vas 5051. I recommend having the dealer set the basic settings.

Emergency brake adjustment

There are 2 ways. It has rear drum in hat style brakes, meaning it has pads and rotors for basic brakes, but incorporated in the rotor is a drum with park brake shoes inside. Remove rear pads and rotors, check the condition of the park brake shoes. Tighten the star wheel adjuster while installing the rotor, keep repeating until rotor feels snug pushing on. Repeat other side reassemble. If still doesn't feel tight, there is an adjustment nut on the left rear side on the cable. The nut is where the 2 rear cables meet, it can be tightened. Do not tighten first, if you ever need park brake shoes later they will not allow the rotors to go back on.

How much would it cost to get my brakes fixed on a 2006 vw passat? also, what about replacing the grill?

an 06 passat has special rear calipers that have to be taken in by a scan tool if you try to turn them in you will damage parking brake motor the brakes also need reset after installation by scan tool or there will be codes in parking brake circuit but the fronts are normal except for sensors on the inboard pads but i beleive at the dealer its around 800 for rotors and pads all the way round the grille im not sure of maybe 150-200 total

What size brakes does my passat have with 17 inch rims. also what type of upgrade rotors and pads would work

size of wheels is not an issue. Use standard B5 VW Passat pads and rotors if needed.

I've found that Original VW brakes last the longest.

VW PASSAT BRAKE COST!

ROTORS WILL RUN ABOUT $60-80 PER ROTOR. PREMIUM PADS RUN ABOUT $40-70 PER PAD. PLUS ABOUT 3-4 HOURS OR SHOP TIME AT AN AVERAGE OF $60-70 PER HOUR

I DO SUGGEST CALLING 3-4 OTHER SHOPS NEAR YOUR AREA AND GET AN ESTIMATE FROM THEM AS WELL.

Vw passat brakes! please help!

get your brakes done at a local tire place and not the dealer.  It sounds like you need a new mechanic.  Got to cartalk.com as they have a list of good mechanics in your area.

Replacement of rear brake pads on 2006 vw passat with electronic

Hey, I knew a Chris Arnold In High School! The Easiest way to fix this is to Put the Pad back on that goes on the Piston and use it as a Buffer. Compress Further with Tool or Channel Locks while Slowly Releasing the Bleeder Valve. Once Compressed Close the Bleeder Valve Quickly as you do not want Air in the System. Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help That I can Get! Thanks!

I personally think that is BS, I can't imagine why they would tell you that. If you know how to change brakes correctly, I'd go for it.
