ON the older model cars and trucks it would be the voltage regulator. On the newer model cars and trucks the pcm (power control module ) controls the voltage from the alternator. The newer model cars and trucks will have to go back to a dealer to reset the pcm,if they cannot reset the pcm it will have to be replaced. Hope this will help you.
