Question about Honda Accord

1 Answer

Ok, so I'm not an auto machanic, I've got a 1995 Honda Accord with a 2.2l 16 valve engine, the problem: went to change out the spark plugs, the rubber boots were covered on the outside with oil. I couldn't even see the spark plugs there was so much oil in there. I have over 220,000 miles on the car and have never seen this. Do the spark plug sleeves have gaskets on the bottom to keep the oil out? I haven't taken the plugs out yet. The car was running fine but I thought it was time for new plugs.

I'm no mechanic either, but... the oil is not coming from the plugs. Probably running down from the valve cover gasket. You were right not to remove plugs with that gunk in there. You could try to soak the oil out with a bit of old towel. Is there any oil on the head under the valve cover? Have you been adding a lot of oil? Of course just a little oil goes a long way when leaking. New valve cover gasket should fix it.

Cranks won't start

First you must check to see if engine is mechanical sound by performing a compression test. remove the spark plugs install a compression gauge in the spark plug hole and crank engine about 4 cycles compare readings to all cylinders reading should be around 125-150 psi readings in the 50 psi range possible jumped or broken timing belt. If engine is mechanically sound test for spark at the spark plugs use a spark plug laid against valve cover and have some one crank it over look for the spark to jump the gap. A no spark problem is internal in the distributor.

1995 Honda accord does not start when car sit for a while

Check your compression. If you don't have a compression checker, take the plugs out, shoot a squirt of oil in each cylinder, replace plugs and crank engine. If engine starts, you are probably looking at a bad set of rings.
