My 2006 Pontiac grand Prix cranks but no start

If it cranks good but won't start, check the basics. Have a helper it while you check for spark at the plugs, if spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse.
I don't know liter size of engine? Sometimes checking spark may be a little more involved if no spark plug wires.
When checking fuel pressure, if no Schrader valve on the fuel rail, then you tie into the supply line to check fuel pressure.
Any applicable trouble codes? To check codes yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader.

1991 8cyl 2.3 liter ford ranger starts then shuts off

There is no such thing as a 2.3 Liter 8 Cyl. Ford Engine. You must be counting Spark Plug wires because the 4 Cyl engine has 2 Spark Plugs per Cylinder. I would check the Fuel Pressure first then if that is not the problem check the Catalytic Converter to see if it is plugged.

I have a 1988 suburban 1500 4x4 5.7 liter v8. I replaced fuel pump and filter, will start and run for about 10 seconds then die and will not restart. Not getting fuel somehow. Injectors were also replaced....

Most likely it is the fuel pressure regulator..also check for spark here's some info for you.. The first thing to do is check for spark.

Disconnect #1 ignition wire at the spark plug.
Install a spark tester into the end of the spark plug boot.
Have an assistant crank the engine over and check for spark at the tester.
Repeat this process at each spark plug.
If any cylinder does not show spark, proceed to secondary component tests.
If ALL secondary components show no spark, test components individually.
If all cylinders test O.K., inspect for fouled spark plugs and clean or replace as necessary.

If spark checks out good, then you could have a fuel delivery problem. I would recommend to start by checking fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. All three must be check before replacing the pump! You can get a fuel pressure gage at a local auto parts store for cheap.

Fuel pressure testing is frequently overlooked but it is one of the common causes of poor performance. The test procedure must include testing that will insure normal
fuel pressure under all operating conditions.

Key Factors

1. Fuel demands are low at idle.

2. Wide open throttle at high engine revs uses the most fuel.

3. Port injection fuel pressure must be reduced when manifold vacuum is high. Vacuum pulls fuel out of the injector causing it to deliver too much fuel if the pressure remains high. Manifold vacuum is used to open the pressure regulator at a lower pressure when vacuum is high.2010-08-21_175858_1.gif

I assume the pump was replaced because it was getting power but no fuel pressure ?
Are you still not getting fuel pressure ?
Spark to the plugs ?
Normal compression when cranking the engine ?
Security light not staying on ?

Clogged air filter ? Needs air into the engine also ,plus compression . Are the fuel injectors spraying fuel into the engine ? Try spraying starting fluid into the engine through the throttle plate and seeing if it starts then ? If it does ,fuel injector problems .

My 1997 ford tauras was running fine until the water pump went bad I changed the water pump and now car won't start it turns but won't start what could b the problem

Check for spark. If there is none take a peak at your work. The crank sensor is in that area and it is possible you damaged it when you replaced the water pump. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

94 gmc sierra 4.3 v6 manual, won't turn over, can hear fuel pump start when accessories turned on..won't fire, girl who needs help

The first thing I would check is fuel pressure. This type of fuel injection requires a minimum fuel pressure in order to operate. If fuel pressure is as little as one psi below minimum the vehicle will not start. You can try squirting a couple of shots of carb spray into the air snorkel while somebody cranks the engine over. If the engine starts and then dies you now you fpdeffinetely have a fuel issue. If the engine still won't start check for spark. Let me know what you find. 2003 kia Sedona won't. start

If this is a sudden occurrence and nothing suspicious happened prior, you most likely lost either gas or spark to the engine. You need to check for both.

Do you hear the fuel pump in the gas tank buzz on for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition key to ON? Unless the fuel pump turns on and puts gas under high pressure at the fuel injectors, the engine cylinders won't get gas to start. Correct fuel pressure is crucial to know if you have a fuel pump (or fuel filter) problem. If the pressure is correct, it is probably not a fuel problem but a spark problem, although there are less common instances where a fuel injector circuit may malfunction.

The ignition system not producing spark at the spark plugs is the other common problem of no starts. Buy a cheap spark tester at a parts store, plug it into one of your spark plug wires, then crank the engine over and watch for a strong blue spark. You might need a helper to do this. If you see a consistent spark, the ignition system is probably good, although you should probably check more than just one plug wire-sometimes one bad ignition coil in a coil pack will cause no starting. Good luck.

1988 toyota camry 2.0 turns over but won't start. Car has been driving like a champ and one morning wouldn't start. Turns over fine but won't fire. Tested for spark by removing spark plugs...

Fuel pressure at idle is normally 30-35psi. Start by taking the gas cap off, and putting it back on. That will De-pressurize the fuel system. Also, make sure you have gas in the car. I have seen gauges on these cars read wrong. I hope this helps.
