This is probably the turn signal switch. Some got the idea to run all the lights thru it.

When I turn on my headlights my brake lights stay on all the time without applying the break pedal. They work fine when the headlights are not on.

Brake pedal you mean. Electrical short somewhere. Somehow power is flowing from the headlight circuit to the brake light circuit. Pull the fuse for the brake lights to see if they stay off, this may help you to isolate the problem. You have to trace the wiring (and test voltages along the way) with the help of the wiring diagram. It's possible corrosion somewhere is also the problem.

They may stay on if your headlights stay on. Try turning your headlights off and see if the break light goes off.

It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.

This sounds like how the headlights on this vehicle are designed to operate. They can be manually turned on if in DRL mode. Setting the park brake before turning the ignition on should keep them from lighting, otherwise they are always on. The light sensor switches between lowbeam and daytime running light modes.

No headlights when turned on

Just a thought. I have a 98 626 5 speed. When the hand brake is applied the head lights go out but the marker lights stay on. Might be a switch issue with the hand brake...worth a look. The sensor should be located at the pivot point for the brake handle.

Check the tail light bulbs, One may be shorted & feeding voltage to brake lights. Check sockets & wiring. Yes, the brake light switch is above the foot brake.

Right tail light not working when pressing brake w/ lights on.

There should be at least 2 bulbs in the light assembly. One light is the light that is on when you turn on your headlights with out the brake pressed, the other light only lights up while you press on the brake. Make sure you are replacing the correct bulb. You may have been replacing the bulb that stays on. Your lights may be set up to turn off the light that stays on when the headlights are on while pressing the brakes.
