Question about 1998 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Honda 98 DX 2.3 4Cyl... Engine is not getting fuel. Had someone Cycle the key while feeling pump in trunk. It hums.. Then traced line to engine before injectors, disconected line and cycled key again, fuel spewed out. I used starting fluid in the intake and engine runs for aprox 3 seconds. It seams to be getting a spark. Its almost as if the injectors are not injecting the fuel.. Hmmm.. Name is Rick, Tel number is 443-614-2450

What is a Crankshaft Positon Sensor. How do I test find and fix and what would cause this to not provide car with fuel. Also because vehicle had sat for over 2 weeks, do you think that the injectors could be clogged? All of them

  • Ricky Parker Nov 15, 2010

Also, another Variable... The clutch went out on this car . Do you think that since the clutch is bad it is causing it not to start somehow?

  • Ricky Parker Nov 16, 2010

Thats what I thought, just was wondering if the Crank Position Sensor had anything to do with a burned out clutch. Kind of Ironic that When the Clutch went now the car wont start.. This was the reason for the car sitting almost 2 weeks without starting.. I'm just able to get to it now..

Is there a trouble code present or check engine light? It may be the CKP (crankshaft position sensor)

A crankshaft position sensor tells the PCM (computer) where each cylinder is located during engine operation. The CKP (crankshaft postion sensor) controls fuel injector operation. Testing a CKP is 99% of the time, unsuccessful with out a scope. As for the injectors being clogged due to sitting for just two weeks, is highly unlikely. Before any parts are replaced or considered suspect to the condition you are having, a DTC scan for trouble codes in warrented. If you do not have a codes reader, autozone or another well supplied autoparts store will perform this procedure for FREE.

Wow...it seems like there is one issue after another the longer time goes on. If the starter is turning the engine over, as I am assuming it is, then the clutch has nothing to do with the car not starting.

I have a 2004 Daytona 600. It's been sitting for several years. I changed the battery, oil, gas, and spark plugs but it still won't start. Engine turns but don't know of it's not getting gas or fuel.

You should hear the pump in the gas tank turn on for 2 seconds when you turn the key to on, not start. A buzz or hum from the tank area? If yes, the pump is supposed to put enough pressure in the line to the engine and the injectors for the car to start. Maybe not enough pressure if it won't start. Change the fuel filter and try again. If no help, maybe a weak, tired pump. You will need the fuel pressure checked to compare to specs for your model . Autozone and others rent or loan fuel pressure testers.

If no noise from the pump, check the fuel pump fuse, under the hood in the power distribution center or fuse/relay box. In that same place is the fuel pump relay. Locate the pump relay from a diagram on the fuse/relay cover. Hold your finger lightly on this pump relay while someone cycles the ignition key from off to on. If the pump circuit is working right, you should feel the relay click. That should send power to the fuel pump to turn it on for that 2 second period. If you feel it click and the fuse is good, possibly the pump or the pump's ground wire is faulty. If you don't feel the relay click with key turned to on, the fuel pump circuit will have to be diagnosed. Good luck with your project. Let me know how you progress.

Not getting fuel to the engine on my 2001 chevy blazer

you must be getting fuel, remove fuel line @ engine, have someone crank the engine, then you'll know, NO SMOKING ! if no fuel, check fuel pump relay ! check all fuses . pump should hum for only 2 seconds, when key is turned to ON position. to prime the system. always check all ground wires to fuel system. important ! good luck

2004 honda, lost power and sputters. Will crank with gas pedal to floor but not enough power to move car. take foot off pedal and it dies

sounds like it is starving for fuel. check fuel pump relay to make certain pump is running. if it is, change fuel filter this may help. the best way to check to see if pump is running is to have someone turn car to on, not start. and feel the vibration at fuel tank with your hand. a pump only runs for a few seconds. until it gets pressure to engine. then when engine is running its on until you shut car back off. you may have to turn key on a few times to feel a vibration. good-day!!

Honda passport ran out of gas. now won't start. Could be gas filter?Put 5 gals of gas in tank. Will start with gas added to air flter intake, but won't stay running

It's possible that you have an air bubble in the fuel line. This blocks fuel from reaching the engine. To clear it, you will have to bleed the line at the fuel filter.

The other possibility is that the fuel pump is not working. Turn the ignition key to the on position. You should be able to hear the fuel pump humming. If not, check the fuel pump fuse, in the fusebox under the hood. If the fuse is ok, you will need to trouble-shoot the pump.

Is the electric fuel pump in the gas tank working ? turn the key to start positon and listen for a small humming noise you may have to have someone get under car to listen if it is humming then it`s working if not first check for a reset button possible in trunk be sure manual to find it if it has one and check fuse in fuse box if all is good there then it might be the fuel pressure regulator

1988 Honda won't start

the problem is most likely the fuel pump has seized up, the reason for this is when u run out of gas the pump which uses the gas around it to cool gets very hot and the bearings seize up, get this kink of complaint all the time on fixya.
