I just replaced my 97 dodge 1500 fuel pump but when I turn key on I don't hear the fuel pump cut on it's not fuses I don't believe it the wires either they don't appear to be cut or ripped in any places

I had something very similar with my truck . I replaced the in the fuel tank fuel pump and refilled my fuel and fuel pump would not turn on and so I drained tank again and removed fuel pump and it had burned up in like 2 seconds of trying to start. I then went to NAPA and got a more expensive fuel pump and installed that one and the fuel pump came on and the truck started. The old fuel pump was from a reputable parts house and just had a random flaw. hope this helps your not alone

My 1998 grand voyager sometimes will not turn over . if i turn the key and don't hear the fuel pump it will not turn over if i turn the key on and hear the fuel pump it will start

did your car come equipped with prolock? prolock starter kill can become defective and prevent your car from starting. or it can be your ignition switch. I had a defective ignition switch and the van 's fuel pump would turn on but no start...

Will not start I don,t hear fuel pump run

when you turn key to on position, not start position, you say you cannot hear pump hum for a few seconds, correct ? first check fuses, then find fuel pump relay, it may have a fuse in it also. I would replace relay first. after the fuses of course. if you still don't hear pump run, then your pump is most likely the problem. its in your tank. one more thing, make sure all grounds are good in this circuit. it could be that simple. good luck

I have a 2002 holden rodeo 3ltr turbo diesel that just stopped while driving how do you check to see if it is the pump or just blocked lines

Just to start with the basics make sure their is fuel in it ... somtimes when these trucks run out of fuel you have to add more then 5 gallons to get the fuel high enough to run over the internal cup that the fuel pick up tube sets in 1 or 2 gallons is not enough to do this . Then have some one try starting the truck while you remove the fuel cap and put your ear to the fill tube for the gasoline you should be able to hear the fuel pump run because it is located inside the fuel tank . If you don't hear the pump running you can try hitting the bottom center of the fuel tank with a heavey blunt object ( block of wood ,Baseball bat ect.) nothing that has a sharp edge . Do this while some one is cranking ( turning the key to start the truck) this somtimes will free the pump up and it will start working again . If it starts then you know the pump is bad . Somtimes when the pump frees up they work again for weeks or months but it not good to take that chance and break down on the highway. Replace the pump and filter .

Turns over and won't start, replaced fuel filter and just turns over and almost fires

Almost fires? Do you mean it does fire some, that you know the plugs are getting spark? If so, then you probably need to have your fuel pressure tested to see if pump is working properly. Can you hear the pump buzz on briefly when you turn key to on? It should come on for a couple of seconds to pressurize the lines. If you don't hear it, then your pump may be bad, or something not turning pump on. Good luck.

1999 gmc sierra 2500 6 liter ran out of gas now won't start

If you are at or near the 100,000 mile mark then your fuel pump may have failed. If you remove the fuel filler cap and listen carefully at the filler neck while someone turns the ignition key to "run" [don't actually crank the engine] you should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for about a second and a half as the key is turned On. If you don't hear the pump buzz then odds are your pump is dead. Your pump may have actually failed making it appear as though you ran out of fuel. Not to uncommon. Hope this helps and good luck!

My 99tahoe died a few miles from home replaced fuel pump filter still would not start found some burnt wires by exhaust manifold replaced them still no start

You need to test the fuel pump by doing a pressure test with a pressure gauge. You can remove your gas cap and have a helper turn your key to the run position not start position and listen to see if you can hear the pump buzzing. If you don't hear a buzz then there is a problem in the circuit. Even if you hear a buzz you should still check the fuel pressure as it may be buzzing but not making enough pressure. check all related fuses and fuel pump relay and wire connections at the pump. The pump is in the fuel tank and will have to be dropped down to replace the pump.

I have a Mercedes 2003 C230. Checked my Fuel line, Fire to Ignition, and Change Camshaft Position Sensors. Car Cranks but still does not start. What else should I look at?

Turn the key and listen for a hum (keep doors closed but a window down and radio off). Don't turn the key all the way to try to crank it, just the turn to get all the lights in the dash on. If you hear a slight hum or buzz that last a second or two that is your fuel pump. If you don't hear it, check your fuse for the fuel pump, if that is not blown, your fuel pump may have gone out.

When I turn the key in the ignition I don't hear anything and my car won't start. I tested the started and it is fine. I replaced the ignition switch. Could it be my alternator or my neutral safety switch...

no. the noise you're not hearing is the fuel pump. When u turn ur key on you should hear a buzzing like sound from the rear of the vehicle. If not, and ur car don' start, probably fuel pump. Just to verify the faulty fuel pump, have an assistant open the fuel tank cover and remove the gas cap itself. With you inside turn just the key on, and have your assistant listen for the "buzzing" or "hummin" sound. if nothing there, then faulty fuel pump. If noise is present, then perhaps you have a different problem like nothing is reaching the engine, fuel wise. Like a plugged fuel filter. when replacing the fuel pump, ALWAYS do the new strainer as installing the old one could cause a whole new set of problems and eventually wipe out the new one as well *RULE OF THUMB, WITH NEW FUEL PUMP, REPLACE FUEL FITLER.* this will be easier on the pump output to the engine. good luck.!

Have a 97 grand am that cranks but wont start. changed the ignition switch. injectors are working and has spark to plugs. need help this is my only car

Do you hear the fuel pump make a whirrring sound when you turn the key to the on position ? You should be able to hear it. If not , the fuel **** is not working. Check the shutoff valve and see if the reset button is up. If it is up, press it down and try to hear the pump again when you turn the key to "on\'. If the shutoff is OK, but you don\'t hear the fuel pump. Replace the fuel pump.
