Hi,
Problems like this are often traced back to the air con /heater unit. There is a product on the market to correct this. It is an areosol avaliable from most good motor factors. You set the heater to recirculate and set the can off with the engine and heater run ning. Leave it for about 10 mins and if its going to work it will do in that sort of time. There are diffreent types all with slightly diffrent instructions son follow what is said on the can. Cast is about £10.

Good luck.

When I run defrost, there is a bad moldy smell. Only happens on defrost setting. Is there a filter to change somewhere?

The condensation is not completely draining. You may want to see if it is plugged. Find the drain area in the engine compartment on the bottom of the firewall. Use an air compressor to blow air back through to clear it. I had a problem with that area which was a ford expedition design flaw. It was draining onto my O2 Sensor and damaging it. I had to make a bypass with a part form a GM truck.

I have a 2001 Legacy twin turb Gtb Wagon, When im driving i can smell an oily smell coming through the Air conditioning. the Smell is actually quite similar to burning coolent. whats the guts with that?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have a leaking heater coil. Check your radiator coolant levels and I am certain that over several days you will note your car is suddenly using water. That sweet oily smell is anti-freeze. Many people bypass the heater coil lines in the engine compartment until they can get the heater core replaced.

Bypassing the heater core is done by disconnecting the lines forward of the firewall in using a pipe nipple or piece of copper tubing with clamps. I recommend you either bypass the lines or have the heater core replaced ASAP. You run the risk of overheating your engine from coolant loss.
Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Smell in A/C when on could it be the filter ?

95 doesn't have a cabin filter. Chrsyler issued a TSB on musty moldy smelling a/c and how to deal with it.

What you can do is swing by your Jeep dealer and pick up a can of there cleaner. Or swing by your local auto parts store and they will have several products that will help with the smell. Follow the directions on the can and you should be in good shape.

MOLDY SMELL INSIDE THE TRUCK, AC WORKS FINE IN THE SUMMER, BUT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE WATER CONDENSATE UNDER THE TRUCK EVEN IN THE FALL, NOW IT SMELLS MOLDY. CAN I CHECK THIS MYSELF? WHERE IS THE CONDENSATE...

look on the outside of firewall for the drain it could be blocked ,but you saw it on the road so i dont think this is your problem, try drilling a 3/8 hole in the lowest point of the floor so if windscreen or something is leaking it can run out again .

IS THERE A CABIN FILTER ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ?IS THIS WHY WHEN MY TRUCK IS CLOSED UP IT SMELLS LIKE MOLD OR MUSTT.AND WHEN I TURN ON MY HEAT AND DEFROST?

There are none on the 2006. There might be some moisture that entered the carpet in the vehicle at some time or another and caused a moldy or musty smell. There are several different air fresheners that can be added to the interior under the seat and in the carpets to help make is smell better.

09 sonata with 1000mils on it with a/c off foul smell comes from ventilation system with fan on. no problem when a/c is on

Does it smell like a dead animal? or just moldy mildew smell? If dead animal, get it out. If mold/mildew smell, treat it with an AC ventilation dodorizer.

Moldy smell coming from Chrysler Town & Country doors

Try this...Mix a solution of 1/2 tap water, 1/2 isopropyl alcohol...about 1 quart - total should be sufficient. Put your window all the way down and where the glass drops BELOW the rubber moulding at the top of the door, take a kitchen funnel and push in-between the moulding/door panel and pour the solution into the door. Water should run out of the bottom of the door...IF it doesn't, one or all of the "ports" built into the bottom of the door are plugged...causing mold buildup in the door and creating your "smell" Locate these "ports" at the bottom of the edge of the door and clean them out with small STIFF wire. If the door drains water as it should - the alcohol will kill the mold in the door and the excess will run out...no harm will be done.
Good Luck

These are 2 separate issues,
1st you will need to replace the multifunction switch on the steering column.

2nd issue will require that a mold killer be sprayed into the ventalation system of the car, moisture build up there and mold and mildew form, hence the smell, this is best done by a AC shop, they have special chemicals and application devices to kill the bacteria that cause the mold, the smell will come back so if it bothers you are causes health issues then it must be done on a regular basis.
