Question about Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Mechanic Afternoon Sir, I am a 24-old young man who want to develop my career in motor mechanic, so currently I am still busy with my diploma with intec college. (Diesel engine: Repairing and Maintanance) My question is, is it possible to be trained with VW cars; can I find a VW workshop were they deal with maintanance and repairs, I want to do my practices with them and also volunteer while I am still studying. Please help me, I like motor mechanic, especially with VWs. David

GOOD MORNING! SINCERELY I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR AUTOMOBILE KNOWLEDGE YOU ARE ABLE TO OFFER US! MY 20 y-o Son, ANDREW HAS A YOUNG MAN HE WORKS AT SONIC WITH WHO IS COAXING HIM TO BUY THIS 1993...

For a number of reasons, I'd stay away from it-it is not going to be great on gas, if it currently has no cam sensor, how can you determine if it runs properly? Although 136,000 miles is not a lot for a 93, if it has not been taken care of (oil changes, tuneups, trans maintanence, etc.) it wil just be a money pit. At the very least, the car should be running, and inspected (which would necessitate replacing the missing muffler). Ask that the car be inspected after the muffler and cam sensor are repaired by a mechanic of your choice, that should probably open your son's eyes to the condition of the vehicle, good or bad. I have a lot of experience with cars, and buying a 'beater' or project car is always a gamble, especially if it does not run. A car that does not run is generally worth scrap only, so $550 it too high.

Sound like you may need a new power steering pump or rack and pinion. Have you noticed any leaks from the vehicle? If you've had the vehicle for 21yrs, then I would have to go with the power steering pump is begining to fail. Hope this helps.

My 1997 Mazda 626 is leaking coolant from the engine. I was told it was a plug in the engine that was worn out. Could that be the case or is it something else? The car as not overheated yet. I'm afraid to...

It can be one of the water jackets in the cylinder block of the engine that has got the leak. this can be plugged and must be done before a long journey as it can develop into a larger leak when on a long drive. Also this might plug off with rust sometimes and will not show up until the leak develops further

1988 olds cutlas ciera service engine light comes

Try taking the car to Autozone or similar business for a free scan of your computer (your car is a pre-OBD2 system and your mechanic may have a scanner that reads only post-'96 autos). The scan will usually only point to problem areas, not specific components. That's where the mechanic comes in with specific tests. Good luck!

What kind if mechanic can not figure out a starting problem? He may need a career change. Your best bet ,sorry to say, is find a capable repair facility and get the ground rules set from the start, as to what they are capable of troubleshooting and be prepared to pay for their time, as you already know, or you would have solved this youself. I know it is 1998 but these issues take time to solve and involve knowledge of reading electrical schematics and have electrical and electronic knowledge also. That does not exist in the auto repair business and they can not spend all day figuring it out because they know you won't pay for their learning curve.

When a/c or vent is on, heater will come on blowing hot air. 1996 for crn vic. Regardless of the temp setting.

I have the same problem and asked an air conditioner mechanic what he thought. He said that the problem is a bad module under the dash that works a door that guides the air through the heater core or switches to the air condenser by the dash switch. He told me he could not fix it because he was too old and it would take a young man or woman to work under the dash.

How do I override the rear air bags?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else but this is a question that would just plain be bad to answer. I assume you are talking about the rear side SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). If this is the case, any attempt to override them could easily result in several bad effects. 1) You could damage the system, causing the bags to inflate, possibly injuring yourself or others in the process of trying. 2) You could easily damage the entire system causing none of the air bags to work, thus risking serious injury in an accident. 3) In the event you did succeed in disabling the system or not, any injury incurred as a result of trying to or succeeding in disabling the air bags could be construed to be the liability of a person(s) responsible for telling you how to do so. My recommendation is to leave them alone for your own safety and that of others. If you are concerned about injury to children in the rear seats here's a link to an article that explains some research about them.

http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-01/NRDmtgs/011802SAB.pdf

Side air bags produce much less risk to your children(s) well being than regular frontal air bags.

Not that it's up to me to decide for other people, but I really caution anyone who is considering giving a solution to this problem. You can be held accountable for helping someone to injure themselves or others. A mechanic here in New York State was recently fined, lost his license to work as a mechanic, lost his garage and his home, and even served a short sentence. The reason? He informed a young man that it was ok to use a compression fitting to repair a damaged brake line in his trans am. As a result the young man blew the compression fitting doing over 80 mph and ran over a young girl getting off of a school bus. The young man driving the car was exonerated of all charges, and the mechanic was held liable for the death of the child, even though speed and wrecklessness contributed more to the accident.

I'd just hate to see anyone injured as a result of something like this.
