I would check the wiring going to the oil pressure switch. i had the same problem in my 95 deville. it was the signal wire touching the ground wire. in witch completed the curcit and turned the warning on. so check thair. if all is good. do an oil change reset the oil life.

My 1997 cadillac deville, northstar w/85, regular oil changes, burns almost 2 quarts of oil every change. It is not leaking.

If your car is losing oil, and if there is no evidence of oil leaking, there is no question that it is either losing it through piston rings or through the head (head gasket or valve guides).
Best thing to do is use a HEAVIER WEIGHT oil than specified for the vehicle when new, regularly monitor your oil level and be sure it never falls below one quart low, and consider having the engine overhauled when you start noticing a performance deficit or hear mechanical noise (such as rod knock) from the engine.

I have on oil psi put in a new oil psi sensor and new oil pump and still when you rev the motor you get 18 to 20 psi what could it be

Hello, This information is from the 1995 cadillac 4.6 Northstar service manual: oil pressure specifications engine at normal operating temp at idle 5 psi at 2000 rpm 35 psi Based on experience you would be better off putting another engine in your car. You can not turn the crankshaft on a Northstar engine. It sounds like the main and connecting rod bearings are worn beyond specs and also the cam bearings. You would spend more on parts compared to cost of another engine. That is my recommendation.

Where's the oil filter on my 97 deville?

If you have the Northstar engine.......

Underneath the engine...next to the oil sump at the front part of the engine, nearest the radiator fans.

1997 cadillac head gasket blown

HI, you will know if your gasket(head) is blown if you see white smoke coming form the tail pipe during normal operating conditions like, acceleration and, idle. you may also see smoke coming ou the oil fill cap when you unscrew it after taking a long drive. this is the cause of the coolant mixing with the oil. If this is the case, replace these gaskets before the head are damaged asap.
