Evap system monitors the pressure of the fuel tank . usually a couple pounds.. this can be checked under the hood by finding the shradder valve towards the driver side,, it will have a green cap on it... keep in mind if you leave fuel fill cap loose it will set code also bad gasket on fuel fill cap will do same and is an easy fix

Large leak?... Fuel Cap not tight or the wrong one is installed. Also, the charcoal canister close valve may be stuck 'open' AND/OR the purge control solenoid valve may be stuck 'closed.'

the charcoal canister that absorbs the fumes is in engine area-u see a hose attached to it ina corner--inspect hose rite down to the gas tank as well as all parts of system--itz an EPA thing and doesnt effect car performance

It will not go off by itself, you will need to reset it by connecting to a diagnostic tool.Once cleared if there is any other problem then it will trigger the check engine light again.Hope this helps..

in my experience the usual culprit is the evap cannister. the problem is it gets moisture in it and freezes during winter thus cracking the plastic. if you lay under the car and look at the evap box it black plastic and if you see a loose or cracked hose or the box itself is cracked that is most likely it. as a side note you can check the gas cap and buy a new one to see if that rectifies the situation. lastly i don't think the gas tank should be suspect as you would probably notice if gas was leaking out of the tank. if you take the car to a dealer or shop they can do a smoke test and determine where the leak is.
