Question about GMC Suburban

1 Answer

I just had an oil change at Mr. Lube,on the way home the oil filter came off, thedouble threaded bolt had come out of the block. Is this common for 5.7 GM motors? This is the first I've heard of this. Any explainations. Please comment!

Oil plug will not come out why?

this usually happens when it was changed the last time. keep in mind that there is wear and tear on the thread surfaces every time the drain bolt Is removed. this may not be any particular persons fault just something that sometimes happens. I have removed this type of drain bolt without pulling the pan but each situation is different. do you get your oil changed at a shop or at a quick lube. the reason is the quick lube people(not all) are in a hurry and don`t pay attention to how tight they tighten bolts.

Oil pan leaking.

not the easiest job at home but if you have way to lift the car securely and tools not a problem.
first lift the car and secure.drain the oil.remove the exhaust pipe to clear the oil pan, remove the bolts from oil pan. between the motor and transmission is a small plate.remove the plate to access two more bolt from the oil pan. with big flat screwdriver pray the pan on the back side.you will find lip on block and the pan to insert the pray bar or screwdriver.clean the pan from old gasket.clean the block from old gasket. install new gasket on the pan and insert 4 screw to hold in place.on front of the engine is the timing cover connection.one drop of silicon will seal the gap.place the pan and drive the 4 screw 3-4 turns.install the rest ant slightly tight all across. (ask you auto store for silicone gasket. the old cork is not so good) .tight all screw again.don't over tight.stop if the gasket start to deform out of the pan.replace the oil filter. refill oil and start the car.check for leaks.
good luck.

How to change oil filter housing,2001 dodge stratus

The Oil filter "housing" is not only that, it has a small oil cooler that uses the radiator coolant circuit to reduce the oil temps. It is easy to change, but not as easy to get as it is not a commonly sold ?tem. Is goes to the engine block with a stub threaded nipple and large nuts. Amclaussen.

Had a faulty oil filter put in by Jiffy Lube. Low oil pressure light came on after about 2000 miles into oil change. Jiffy Lube stated it was a faulty oil filter and replaced it. Drove off and light...

I can tell you that it sounds like someone is trying to take you for a ride.. I've been a mechanic for 28 years. And I've never heard of o rings going bad on a motor that only has 56000 miles. Change the oil filter again.. make sure that it's not a fram.. gram filters have been known to cause your oil pressure light come on. Hope this helps you.

Where is the oil pump located on a 1999 ford taurus and whats items do i need replace a long with the oil pump

Remove oil pan oil pump and pick up tube & screen will be bolted on.
You should get oil pump lube, carb. cleaner, new pump oil,
oil pan gasket, silicon, oil & filter, loc-tight, gasket remover & tools metric, 1/4 drive socket set, scraper / putty knife, 2 jack stands, a jack or ramps,
& blocks for rear wheels.
Lets get started.

(1)Get your car up on stands or ramps block rear tires.

(2)Drain oil & remove oil filter remove battery cable NEG (-)

(3)remove pan

(4)remove old pump

(5)remove pick up tube from oil pump

(6)Now clean tube & screen with carb. cleaner place on news paper to dry.

(7) clean all old gasket off from engine & pan also clean bolts

(8)place silicon on pan place gasket on pan put bolts in from gasket side to Aline holes put a side to dry

(9) Attach tube to pump with a little loc-tight fill pump with oil pump lube

(10)attach pump to engine block make sure rod goes in proper & bolt are tight.

(11)Bolt pan back on engine using a 1/4 in drive ratchet don't over tighten bolts get all bolts in now slow run each bolt in starting at 1 end then jump to the other then go to bolt at other end a cross from 1st bolt. Do this till all bolts are ran in. Now tighten bolts look for gasket on side of pan.If it starts to push out stop go to next bolt.

(12)Instill new filter & drain plug,& pour in oil

(13)Replace Neg - cable

I hope this works for you it's a basic oil pump change for most cars.
Some take more steps.

The oil got very dirty due to long use

Get a tube of permatex and put the pan back on...the oil filter is mounted to the block on the outside.
Looking up from the pan, it's a canister filter about the size of a soup can, threaded into the lower side of the engine just above the pan.

The filter is internally-threaded, and mounts on a short nipple spout....turn it counter-clockwise to remove, and put the new filter on hand-tight plus a short snug with the filter wrench*.

*A simple tool, about $5-10 at Autozone.

**For future oil changes, simply remove the drain bolt from the pan, and swap the filter.

Severe engine clunking after oil change

Appearently Mr Lube is either going to end up fixing your car. I dont know what could have happend other than maybe they put the wrong type of oil back in it. I would definately get ahold of some of the higher ups at Mr Lube and "Ensure" they put your car back the way it was when it arrived there. There is no purely coincidence about it. They were the last ones to touch it. They will be the first ones to fix it. Make sure you are very firm with them, and keep track of names/dates/events as this important if you need to consult an attorney because of their negligence. Hope this gives you some direction, Thanks for using FixYa!
