Air Circulation
When the heated/cool seat switch is pressed to initiate operation of the climate control seat (CCS) system, cabin air is drawn through the heated/cool ventilation module air filter, then directed through passages in the foam of the seat cushion and seat back to the seat's occupant. In order for the CCS system to operate to its optimum performance, it is crucial to have unrestricted air flow through the system. A dirty or restricted air filter, the blockage of an exhaust air duct, a misaligned heated/cool ventilation module, or incorrect foam installation of the seat cushion or seat back will all have negative effects on CCS operation.
Heated/Cool Ventilation Module
Each heated/cool seat has 2 ventilation modules, one located under the seat cushion and one located in the seat back. These modules are controlled by the climate control seat module (CCSM). Each ventilation module contains a thermo-electric device (TED), a temperature sensor, and a blower motor. The TED and temperature sensor are mounted downstream of the blower motor. Each TED consists of a circuit of positive and negative connections sandwiched between 2 ceramic plates. Each ceramic plate is equipped with copper fins for heat exchange. The air flowing past these fins is either directed as conditioned air into the seat cushion and seat back, or directed into the cabin as waste air.
A TED is essentially a solid state heat pump that is used to heat or cool the air supply to the seat cushion and seat back. When voltage is applied to a TED, one side releases energy as heat, while the opposite side absorbs energy and gets cold. When the polarity of the current flow to the TEDs is switched, the hot and cool sides of the TED reverse.
During the following climate control seat system description and operation, the TEDs, blower motors, and temperature sensors will be referenced independently even though they are all packaged together as a module.
Climate Control Seat (CCS) System
The CCS system consists of two heated/cool ventilation modules and one climate control seat module (CCSM) that controls both the driver and passenger heated/cool seats systems. The CCSM is mounted below the front passenger seat cushion. It receives power from both, battery positive voltage and ignition 3 voltage.
Once a CCS system is activated, cabin air is drawn through the seat blower motors and directed across the fins of each of the thermo-electric device (TED) located under the seat cushion and in the seat back. The air is either heated or cooled as it passes over the TEDs. This conditioned air is then directed through channels in the foam of the seat pad and through small holes in the seat cover to the occupant. Once the system is activated, the CCSM uses a set of algorithms to control the temperature of the selected heating or cooling modes.

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the C1 harness connector at the CCSM.
  2. Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal M and ground.
  3. ?‡'
    If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

  4. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal E and ground.
  5. ?‡'
    If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

  6. Disconnect the C2 harness connector at the CCSM.
  7. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 1 and ground.

  9. If all circuits test normal, replace the CCSM.

What is difference between on an auto on thermostate


I'm not sure exactly how this applies specifically in a car, but on a home heating and cooling (air conditioning) thermostat, it is often associated with the fan or blower setting.

If for a system fan:

"Auto On" setting in a heating / cooling system would start the fan when the temperature climbed above or dropped below the setting you on the thermostat and start the heat or cooling source. Once the thermometer indicates the desired temperature had been reached, the heating / cooling source would be stopped and the fan would turn off.

"On" would run the fan all the time, regardless if the thermostat tired to start the heat or cooling source. This would result in constant circulation of the air in the space(s) and tend to keep warm or cool spots (rooms) from being created.

I had similar problems 2 times with the automatic heat / AC module.
I suppose your system is automatic too.

First time the commands were working erratically acting weird. Sometimes was heating at full capacity blowing heads off. At other times it was not starting at all.
The whole module had to be replaced.

Second time if the car stayed in the sun the AC was heating, after starting the engine and cooling started only after achieving greater speeds (above ~60km/h). Whenever the speed decreased the system began to heat again eventually. It turned out that the engine cooling fan was broken and had to be replaced. That fan cools both the engine radiator and the AC radiator. If it is faulty your engine might be at risk of overheating at low speeds.

Lighting may be as simple as a fuse, or may even have the switch in the off position. As far as floor heat, is heat coming out of the upper ducts? If not, the shop may not have properly filled your cooling system since your heater works by using the heated coolant. Your cooling system requires purging of captured air within the system whenever the system is drained. If you have heat from upper ducts and not the lowers, the doors built into the heating/cooling system are not working properly. A severe collision may have broken some of the plastic casing of the system causing a mechanical interference of moving parts, or knocked a wire connection loose that controls the doors. Those are the items to visually check. Otherwise it's a process of elimination via testing of the electronics.

Why does the fan keep running on 2005 jetta after turning off


You are talking about the thermo electric cooling fan, its operation is independent of the car's electical system. It is switched on and off by the engine temperature. When you park, the engine heat soaks upward to heat the thermostat turning the fan on. It will run until the engine cools down and the thermostat switches it off. Quite normal operation.

Temp control switch does not regulate temp i get heat on all settings except max ac


switch prolly not bad but you might wanna look into your heater control valve. valve not closing and letting the hot coolant fill your heat exchanger rather than recycling it back to the cooling system. The heat is over powering your a/c system and you're only getting a bit of cooling when you have the a/c on max. try it out

heating and cooling fans are generally one and the same. changing freon doesn't always fix the problem... did you have the system pressure checked for leaks first.

Second determine if the vents are opening properly (switching from heat to cooling) basically when you change to cool it closes air access to the heater core.
