Replaced a timing belt and car wont start.

Sometimes it's wise to count the teeth to make sure you're right on. Usually if the timing is a little off it'll still ignite fuel a little and pop. If it ran prior to doing the work, you may have forgotten to plug something back in, I do it quite often. If the timing belt broke, it may have bent valves. If you're smelling fuel, it's unlikely it's being ignited. I'd check compression just in case, and make sure you're not 180deg off. If you're going to remove the belt again, check the #1 piston is all the wAy up, check to make sure the distributor rotor is pointing to #1, and check to make sure cyl #1s valves are closed.

Non interference

You say that you checked the timing marks (Camshaft vs. crankshaft) for proper alignment, but it's possible that the camshaft and crankshaft are out of sequence since the crankshaft turns two 360-degree rotations for every one of the camshaft. It's possible that the crankshaft needs to be rotated another 360 degrees and lined up with the timing mark on the camshaft (remove the timing belt in order to do this). Good luck.

I have fire and compression and fuel car wont start but only backfires ive timed it right on the marks can u help me? i also need the wiring for the crankshaft position sensor.

if you have spark and fuel in the cylinders then it should start make sure the firing order is correct and you mentioned the timing marks so you probably did a timing belt you may still be 180 off , if the belt broke and its an over head valve you may have squashed the valves tring to start it with a broken timing belt

92 dodge D150 3.9l replaced timmin gears and chain new distributor rotor wires plugs timmin is dead on but will not start

Can you take the valve cover off and turn the crank until the number one valve closes, then check the rotor on the dist ?
TDC for number one cyl is when that intake valve closes.
I assume you checked the compression and all 6 cylinders are ok ?
If you have compression and the valve timing is close, you should be able to turn the dist and get it to backfire or something if the ignition timing is the only problem.

I Need help putting my timing belt on.I have the cover off and the broken belt off.I'm not exactly sure how too get my Top Dead Center and everything lined up correctly.any help out their? 1991 Mitsub....

the basic rule about timing belts, first line all dots upon the front of the gears is a indent/dot line that with the indent/dot on the backing plate it also has a dot/indent line all up and place belt on and make sure you dont move anything when you tighten the belt.did the engine suffer much damage when the last belt broke??????adrian,,,,

My 1992 Mighty Max, will not start, its getting plenty of fire, but I don't tkink its getting fuel, what could be causing this?

If not getting fuel then the normal areas to check is the fuel filter, fuel pump but first the obvious is to make sure you have fuel in the tank. If this engine has a carburetor, remove the air filter houseing and pour a small amount of gas into it. Try starting it. If it starts and then dies it is a fuel delivery problem. If it wont start even temporily then I'd check things like wires, plugs, timing, etc (stuff to do with delivering a spark).

Engine backfire's when you let off gas but idle's fine

Engines backfire when timing has slipped. You might need a new timing belt. \

Timing belt goes from Crankshaft on bottom of engine to Camshaft on top of engine. Both have to be synchronized to the correct timing.

Check repair manual or internet for correct timing. You'll probably have to find top dead center on first piston.
