I had the issue with my MK4 (2004 GLS 2.0L) - the door module for the alarm system had gone (mine was the driver's door). My mechanic had found the problem because the car would randomly draw elec when everything was off - that module and the engine module for the alarm were bad.

unlock all doors. if it isnt working, either your vacuum system has a leak (most likely no locks will operate automatically) or the actuator is bad. actuator pushes a pin forward from the trunk area into a hole in the door which keeps it shut/locked with doors locked.

You need to have the VW dealer or a well equipped VW savvy repair shop scan the body control module (or whatever VW calls it) and see what codes return, it is likely the problem, but hold on you can't jut pop one in it must be programmed for your car.

Check your fuses. Check your owners manual for the location of your fuse boxes. There should be reference cards in the boxes to tell you what fuse goes to what device.

2006 Jetta TDI Electrical!!!

There is a known issue with the wiring harness in the doors. It's possible that the passenger door also has a bad harness (assuming they swapped out the one in the driver's door) Is that a correct assumption? It may still be related to your original problem too. I've heard of disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes to reset the electrical (door switches). You should def give that a try - it's free.

You have a bad door ajar switch in one of the doors. You will need to take it to the dealer to find out which one is registering open, and have it replaced.

2004 VW Jetta engine compartment fuze box location

one is located over the battery, the other is located in the side of the dash.

First panel:
If you pop your hood the battery will be on your right sid in the front of the engine bay. There is a small rectangular piece on top of the battery with a lot of heavy guage red wires going to it. That is the engine bay fuse box.

Second panel:
if you open your driver side car door it's under neath a panel located inbetween the door and the dash board.

You probably have a bad microswitch in the door latch assembly. It lets the computer know if the doors are open or not.
