Hello
First i would like to say you may be chasing your tail on the fuel pump, the opump doesn't run for more than 1 second if the ignition is turned on unless 1. the engine is cranking to start or 2. the engine starts and stays running, so if you test the fuel pump for power keep this in mind, a quick blink and the fuel pump power goes off.
What I would like you to do at this point is run a fault code test, I believe there is a fault in the ignition and the fault code test may reveal that code.

OBD1 Codes Retrieval (Pre-1995 Cars and Trucks)
Hyundai vehicles 1989-95 obd1 Fault code retrieval
To get your check engine light codes for Hyundai vehicles 1989-95 is simple. All it needs is your analog voltmeter (a voltmeter that has a needle indicator) hooked up to your diagnostic connector. The diagnostic connector is usually located under your dash panel on the left side of the steering column.
To hook up the voltmeter, connect the positive lead on the "mpi" diagnostic pin on the top right corner of the connector and the negative lead is connected to the ground pin of the diagnostic connector located in the lower left corner.
You can then turn the key on and watch the codes being sweep by the needle of your voltmeter. Example: A code 13 is shown as 1 sweep of long duration followed by 3 sweeps of short duration. Also if there are more codes, it will be shown in numerical order.
Here are some popular obd1 codes for Hyundai 1989-1995 vehicles:
Code 11 Oxygen sensor
Code 12 Air flow sensor
Code 13 Air temperature sensor
Code 14 Throttle positioner sensor
Code 15 Motor position sensor
Code 21 Engine coolant sensor
Code 22 Crank angle sensor
Code 23 No.1 cylinder top dead center sensor
Code 24 Vehicle speed sensor
Code 25 Barometric pressure sensor
Code 41 Injector
Code 42 Fuel pump
Code 43 EGR
Code 44 Ignition coil fault
Code 59 Oxygen sensor fault

Yes you have wiped the memory, You know you could have a defective ignition switch here (not the key cylinder but the actual electrical switch the keys operates), seen that a few times, does the check engine light come on when the key is turned to run? this is called the light prove out, but all this is a guess since you wiped the computers memory, crank the engine over and try to start it with starting fluid, then test for codes again is the best advice i can offer..

The ignition switch isless tan $15.00, it is on the backside of the key cylinder and easy to replace, just remove the plastic covers over the steering column tube and the switch is right there, see picture and part number below. Source www.rockauto.com

Yes it could be the ECU or the wiring harness to it, but i know of no way to test the ECU other than fault codes that indicate a possible problem, I have replaced a few ECUs for this kind of problem but that was few and far between, the failure rate is about 2% across the industry, that is not to say you don't have one of the 2 in a 100 that do fail, the age of the car makes it more suspicious. One problem I have is that this type of elusive problem really requires special dealer test equipment to track down, from this Key board all I can do is make educated guesses based on my 35 years of experience, 20 of which was just automotive electronic systems repair and diagnosis.

The control relay is located in the engine compartment, next to the ignition coil. If the engine starts when the ignition switch is turned to START , but stops when it is turned to ON , the relay is defective. Jumper terminals 1 and 2 of the test connector; the fuel pump should operate. If the pump fails to operate when the jumper is connected, the pump is probably defective.

I suppose you can do that.

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 18, 2010

I did not get a chance to respond back while reviewing your issue. Not sure why you just went ahead and replaced the distributor without knowing why or testing it first.

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 19, 2010

Stop the madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.IF it is the ECU, tell me why and what test poroves this is the issue. There are many other engine components that need to be tested be for we can move on. Guessing is a waste of time and money.

1992 hyundai s coupe 1.5l eng fuel to injectors but injectors not firing

The injectors are grounded by the cars powertrain control module (called the PCM for short) at the appropriate time calculated by the crankshaft and camshaft positions which are read and sent to the PCM by the two sensors.

You stated the 'CHECK ENGINE' light came 'ON'!... what/which DTC'S (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) OBDI were retrieved? In 1991, OBDI (1) was used. You could retrieve codes by either turning the ignition switch on/off two or three time within 3 seconds and the light would flash for each number (this way you could determine which system was affected). The POSSIBLE CAUSES are many:

Crank Position Sensor
Ignition Coils/Wires
Water/contaminated fuel
Electrical (Relay(s), fuse(s), Poor ground connections, failed ECU (Engine Control Unit), etc.

Are you getting a SPARK to the plugs?... if so, check fuel pump pressure
If you're not getting a spark to the plugs or not getting a fuel injector PULSE, then the crank position sensor MIGHT BE the problem.... NOT SURE!

Too many POSSIBLE or PROBABLE causes.

In order for an engine to RUN, it needs these things:

1. Air flow (intake AND exhaust)
2. Fuel (proper fuel to air mixture)
3. Compression (140 to 2?? psi)
4. Proper Timing (not too advanced/retarded)
5. Ignition (sufficient and at the correct/right time)

Now, after listing these 5 things, without CHECKING each one, your guess is a good as mine.

The electric fuel pump has a relay, you may be able to reset it , most likely you need to replace it. For the location of the relay and to find the firing order for your car, go see an Auto Zone sales person and they can give you the locations you asking about.

If you have a national auto parts chain store near you (autozone, advanced auto parts, pep boys, etc etc) Have them hook up an obd2 tester to your car and see if any codes come up(they do this for free!!!). If nothing then I would check the ignition switch module inside the steering column, it may be energizing the starter motor but not sending a signal to the ecu that the car is trying to be started.

ECU of my Hyundai Scoupe 1994 2 doors cannot trigger the sequence of the fuel injectors to supply gas or petrol into the combustion chambers but spark is available to the spark plugs! can you help me solve...

The ECU requires timing pulses from the crankshaft and camshaft sensors in order to generate the injector pulses. All other sensors just modify the pulse width of the injectors to adjust for power and economy. If the ignition is entirely controlled from a distributor, the two above sensors would not affect the spark. Hope this helps!

HI. Two issues here. The first will be with your fuel pressure regulator. this device can fail, mechanically, thus, causing an inappropriate amount of fuel to be introduced into the system. this will cause flooding, due to a ruptured diaphragm. I recommend to have this device inspected for damage.

The second issue will deal with a failed injector(s). Injectors can fail In this way, as well. This device can become filled will debris, thus, causing the mechanism to not close completely. This will cause flooding, in this case. replace any injector that is damaged in this way(stuck open).
