Still same problem. 2nd At the wsame time batery will drain down if leave cables hooked up all nite an nothing on. Could this be a injector wire shorting out causing injectors to hang open . An how to check injectors an elect. plugs for this problem

The only way an engine can run Wide open is if the throttle plate is opened all the way, allowing a large volume of air in to the engine. Check the throttle plate and see if it is hung up or possibly the throttle cable is frayed and holding the throttle open. It is not the injectors, they operate on inputs from the PCM.

When looking in top of throttle body the flapper is closed till you push pedal down then it opens up . Is this what you mean by throttle plate

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 13, 2010

Yes. And when the engine is running, is the plate closed?

Also when checked the TPS it had sum rust on it where slides onto shaft. Cleaned it good an re-assembled an also cleaned throttle body bore good so plate couldnt hang on anything

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 13, 2010

With the engine off, operate the throttle plate with the lever linkage on the engine and also push on the throttle plate to see if it is loose.

have manualy operated it with all the linkages on , Its closed when not running I grad the arm with the throttle linkage on it an open it up an when let go it springs back fully closed an cant feel any slack in plate itself

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 13, 2010

Ok, so the engine is idling high...but not at full throttle, right?

  • Ronnie Pyron

So with the problem of the battery draining when left connected couldnt be something shorting out an causing it to drain an run wide open

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 13, 2010

Now I'm confused......Ok, so the engine is idling high...but not at full throttle? What rpm is the engine getting to?

  • Ronnie Pyron

no sir when you start it without touching throttle it sputers couple times then goes wide open all at once .so i shut it down fast a possible. When it does you can hit the pedal real fast an it makes no difference .still throttles wide open . An im talking wide open

  • GetMeOttaHere Nov 13, 2010

You replaced the throttle position sensor? If so, why?

1997 honda crv. wont start

which engine??????????????????
one of those is false. i bet. ever the the 60k mile tune up this decade ? Yes, good, no?, well, what did you expect?
driving honda's top death is just that....see end. below.

my guess is you are doing one test wrong. , (i cant see you, so...)
THE ROPES: (called basics ) order counts big time.

1-good engine? (compression at 150psi or more x4? or x6 if V6.
2-good spark at all cyl. and timing right. check timing.
if timing of spark is way off the cam belt slipped, no service ever done is cause.
3-good fueling, it runs. (if not flooded (is it) test fuel does work here.
in this step.

turns off driving, but how did you do that, if it wont start?????
my guess is the stalls were the preamble to the end death

exceptions, to above. ( 1st CAT ,is rare)
1: CAT melted. (there is a cheap simple test ,ask)
2: ISC stuck closed, (Aka; iAC electric) use 10% throttle to mimic this bad part and car starts easy , this trick is in the operators manual.
3: EGR stuck wide open, see 10% above, trick. or clean it.
4: engine flooded, see opr. guide for WOT cranking
you crank at WOT. wide open throttle, and EFI cuts all fuel, clearing
the flood.
so, do you look at spark tips for BAD COLOR or soaking wet with fuel.
Look at them. (they speak volumes)

old spark plates and winter hate each other..
do the full tune up, filters ,cap rotor, wires and plugs. and magic happes, and if the timing belt is old, BOOM
that means ,skip belt service, a $25 belt can wreck the whole engine.
or at the least just bent valves,
on this engine, my cylinder leak down tool comes out 1st.
(your symptoms)

Wide open as in wide open throttle?? You mean the engine is racing? Something is wrong with the throttle controls, or the throttle valve in the carburetor may be sticking open. Look down the carb throat. At its base will be the throttle valves-"butterfly" valves just like the choke valve on top of carb. The throttle valve should be closed at rest, or at idle, or when gas pedal is not moved. Rotate the throttle lever on the carburetor by hand (when gas pedal is pressed down, the throttle is rotated). The throttle valve at the bottom of the carb should open and close with the throttle lever.
If the valve is sticking, spray some carburetor cleaner down it, and spray the outside clean, too. Work the throttle back and forth to make sure it is free to move.
For a high idle, have the carburetor adjusted. Timing should be checked, too-that can cause a high idle, but wouldn't cause it to go wide open.
Let us know what you find. Good luck.

There is a stutter starting to show up at wide open throttle.

Injectors would be a good place to start, you can either run some fuel cleaner through the system from a parts house or have a shop run aggressive bulk cleaner through. Also have you checked your timing belt if it jumped a tooth that could cause a power loss as well, how long since you've checked the timing belt? If none of the above works make sure you run a fuel pressue test not enough pressure will show up big time at wide open throttle, Good Luck!

I have an 1999 Infinity QX4 4WD. It started missing so I changed the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and fuel and air filters. It won't start. After it cools down it will start and run fine for...

There can be a misfire too from the cylinders.

An engine that hesitates, stumbles or misfires when accelerating or when it is under load is an engine that is either sucking too much air, not getting enough fuel or misfiring. If the Check Engine Light comes on, you may find any of the following codes:

• P0171, P0174 Lean fuel condition codes
• P0120 to P0124 Throttle position sensor codes
• P0222 to P0229 Throttle position sensor codes
• P0400 to P0409 EGR related codes

If there are no misfire codes, a common cause of acceleration stumble is a bad throttle position sensor (TPS). The TPS tells the computer how far the throttle is open. The computer uses this information to determine how much fuel is needed to maintain the correct air/fuel mixture and when extra fuel is needed if the throttle suddenly opens wide.

Another common cause is dirty fuel injectors. If varnish deposits have built up in the tips of the injectors, they won’t spray as much fuel as they normally do, or will “dribble” fuel instead of spraying a fine mist. This creates a lean fuel mixture and conditions that are ripe for stumble and hesitation (also misfire). Look at short term fuel trim (STFT) and long term fuel trim (LTFT) with your scantool. If the numbers are high, it tells you the engine is running lean and the injectors need cleaning. Treat mild cases with a high quality fuel-injector cleaner additive. Severe cases require professional cleaning equipment.

Also if this sensors apply to your vehicle, camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor if sensors bad you don't get any spark. Also run a scan on the car.

Good luck and rate this solution, please.

Rough idle when engine is cold 1997 Explorer V 6

There are 2 common problems on this concern. 1st maybe a dirty MAF sensor. Remove the MAF sensor and clean it with a good electrical cleaner and air dry or light shop air, then reinstall and do a couple of wide open throttle burst to reset it.
2nd problem and we see alot of this is the orings between the upper and lower intake manifold leaks. You would have to remove the upper intake manifold and replace them.

When I start my 1996 Previa the engine revs up wide open

Have you removed the intake hose and checked that the buterfly is closed. If so does it open up on its own accord when engine starts. If so check all linkages and return springs. If it has a cable operated throttle and the butterfly is not opening then you have a massive air leak into the manifold via a breather hose or the likes.
