Question about Ford F-150

1 Answer

I have a '94 F150, straight 6, 4wd, 5 speed manual trans. My transmission shifting knob popped out of it's position and was stuck in a gear. I opened up the cover and was able to move the gear manually and replace the knob. It worked for a couple of days except I didn't have 1st and 2nd. Now I found first but it wouldn't shift out of that gear. To make a long story short it is in a gear (not sure which one), with the engine off I can rock it and feels like it is in a gear, but the same happens if I push in the clutch. I can depress the clutch and start the engine but when I let off on the clutch it will not move, it feels like the e-brake is on, but its not. Is it possible that it is in a forward gear and reverse at the same time? With the shifting knob out I can't manually move the reverse gear to a position that will work.

That's the problem...I can't move the shift levers on the left side, which would be 5th and reverse. They seem to be stuck down too low and I can't push them back up. Thanks for your help.

It seems like your shift fork is in between gears you must remove the shift tower and align all the shift levers then drop the shift knob into the middle being neutral tighten it up and it should be ok but remember the replacement could be slightly thinner then the original and causing this new problem.

1999 chevy cavalier transmission won't shift into

1999 cavelier manual trans: My son was shifting his manual trans really rough (ramming through the gears to try to beat someone out at a light) and ended up not being able to put it into anything but 3 and 4 (straight up and down). We noticed that the shifter cable, that actuates the position of the arm on the transmission, had pulled away from a "c" clip and was not held into place about 8-10 inches down the cable away from the trans. The cable needs to be secured into that clip in order to let the wire inside move the trans. lever to shift. Otherwise you will be stuck on what ever "rail" your trans is on at the time of disconnection. It would be the first thing that I would check.

1997 silverado installed used trans n speed senser plug is diferent and now it wont down shift

If you have adifferent plug for the speed sensor then you probaly have the wrong year model transmission.Even though 93 through 97 look similar they do not interchange.Your speed sensor should be on the passenger side of tail housing,That is the 1995 up design. If you have a trans with the speed sensor on the drivers side of tail housing then you have a 93 to 94 design.93 and 94 were non-pwm units with 5 solenoids.95 was a pwm unit with 6 solenoids with low impediance pwm solenoid.96 and up are pwm units with 6 solenoids and high impediance pwm solenoid.Swapping these units can blow computers. It is probaly stuck in third gear because the fuse is blown or because of open vss circuit. You will not be able to make this transmission work.

How to shift into 4wd

Ford has 2 types of 4x4 system engagement. One is a knob on the dash that you just turn to 4wheel drive high or low. The other system is the 4x4 transfer case shift on the transmission tunnel (hump) between the driver and passenger seats. To shift into 4 wheel drive high while driving, just let off the gas and shift transfer case into 4H position, and continue driving. To shift into 4 wheel drive Low, stop the vehicle completely, put transmission in neutral, shift transfer case into 4Low position, put trans. in gear, and start driving. I am assuming before doing the above, you have locked in ( turned the front hubs to 4 wheel drive position.) Any further questions, let me know.

Trans is in limp mode. Speed sensor problem with the transmission. Take it to the dealer. I had mine done for 186 bucks.
