I have 1994 Chevy lumina 3.1 liter. sometimes it will start and sometimes it doesn't. when it starts it runs fine but might die at random. when it starts and turn it off it might start again and it might not. when it doesn't start it has spark and fuel pressure. I just changed the crank sensor and still no go. any advice would be helpful.

    does it have injector pulses?

  • serb357 Nov 13, 2010

I didn't check, but I think something is stopping the injectors from turning on.

You need to check for a pulse, but it sounds like an ignition module, you can pick them up at a salvage yard for around $30.00.

When it stops running and will not start back up, you'll need to figure out if you are lacking spark or fuel pressure to proceed with testing.

Engine runs rough and then stalls after gets to operating tempature. Sometimes will not start back up until sits a few minutes. It is a 1994 3.1m chevy lumina.

Check for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure at the fuel rail. This will narrow down our suspects. Then let me know. If you need to know how to do these just ask. Thanks

My 1990 chevy lumina will start up for few seconds then die. it wont stay running for more than 5 seconds but will starts up every time. when i give it gas it dies immediately

Sounds like low fuel pressure. Check your fuel pressure. If you have the 3.1 liter engine and just turn the key to the "on" position you should have around 41 - 47 PSI. When running it should have about 31 - 44 PSI. If you have the 2.5 liter engine you should have 26 - 32 PSI of pressure when running. I hope this helps and good luck.

1994 chevy lumina van. It will start and idle but stalls when gas

Try replacing the throttle position sensor. I had the same problem in my truck. It would start and run for a bit but as soon as you let off of the pedal, it would die. Try it and see if it works.

It is one of 2 things fuel pump or Crank Shaft Position Sensor. Best bet would be the Crank Shaft Sensor, and what that does is tell the computer where the crank is and when to fire the right plug at the right time

93 chevy lumina euro won't stay running

if you can check for spark when it wont start and fuel pressure and the service port , would be great information , otherwise pattern failure is ignition module and crank sensor (replace them as a set) , after cools off it will run again.

Check that you're getting spark to your plugs and fuel to your injectors. If so, my first guess would be to check your timing belt.
