YOU HAVE TO FIRST TURN OFF AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM THEN TURN OFF RADIO TO KEEP PLAYING CODE. REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT REAR OF VECHICLE.OKAY TO GET C LOCK OFF FROM REAR DIFFERENTIAL.YOU HAVE TO REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL CASE COVER. YOU TAKE LARGE SCREW DRIVER PLACE SCREW DRIVER BETWEEN THE REAR AXLE CASE AND A RING GEAR BOLT TO KEEP THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE FROM TURNING WHEN REMOVING THE PINION SHAFT LOCK BOLT.ROTATE THE DIFFERENTIAL AROUND ENOUGH TO SLIDE OR REMOVE THE PINION SHAFT OUT THE CASE UNTIL PART OF THE SHAFT CONTACTS THE RING GEAR.HAVE A HELPER PUSH IN ON THE AXLE FLANGE AND REMOVE THE C LOCK FROM THE INNER END OF THE AXLE SHAFT. TORQUE DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT LOCK BOLT 15 TO 30 FT LBS. TORQUE DIFFERENTIAL CASE COVER BOLTS TO 35 FT LBS.

If it is made like its counterpart the explorer and it sounds like it is just pop it out with a pry bar .hope this helps
