This is usually a cold or poor solder joint that has given up.

You will need to remove the cluster from the dash to take a look at the solder joints and the pin connector for the message center display.

This is if the display itself is blank, if ti is just the back light, that is the bulb

Odometer reading flickers on mini message center on ford f150

first thing you need to do (answering as an electronics engineer) is double check all connectors and cables to and from the display, and associates circuit boards. and make sure they are tight. Not being intimately familiar with the boards involved or the display itself, I cant suggest where to look in specific, but it is also possible that you have a bad solder connection or two that need to be redone. SO you may need to spend some time with a good illuminated magnifying glass, examining the boards involved.

2006 Expedition overhead compass reads "N" when heading "E". Wonder how to reset it so it indicates the direction accurately.

Yes. Wish I could tell you which button for sure, but to reprogram the Compass you hold one of the buttons and drive in a circle one or two times to reacquire your position.

Message center and transmission gear shift display, totally disappear and go black shortly after start up or will not illuminate at all.

{: ) You may wish to record the latest odometer and engine hours reading while still visible, just for future purposes. The problem is an internal circuit failure on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Sooner or later the two message screens on your IPC will totally go blank and goodbye, so be prepared.
A replacement IPC will be that of later models, it will be programmed to your vehicle, and the trip odometer (total mileage) will be reset to zero.

The message center board located on the insturment panel that reads out the compass, mileageandtemp. is just a blank screen

You can take a look at the back of the cluster, where the odometer plugs in for cold solder joints.
I have not been able to find them yet, maybe with a magnifying glass and a good light, you will have better luck than myself.

The odometer plugs into the cluster with edge pins, and this is a place to start looking for the cold solder joints ( 97-03 MY was much easier to find the cold solder joints ).

I wan to clear a maintenance request message?

Put your key in and turn to the 1st position, with your other hand hold down the odometer reset until the triangular engine light flashes 3 times. At which point, turn the key to the second position and release the odometer reset. Then finally turn the key off. Next time you restart, scroll through the messages. The maintenance request should be gone. There you go...

Maintenance Required Light

The instruction is in your owners manual. I also perform my own maintenance. Well, here's the steps if you still haven't done it. Good Luck

Put the key into the ignition and press the odometer button. While holding down the odometer button, turn the key to the on position. You will see "-----"on the odometer display. It will count down "-----" "----" "---" "- -" "-". Then you will see zeros on the odometer display "000000". You can now release the odometer button. This will reset the maintenance light on your dash.
