Question about Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

1] Security system seems to have problem. "SECURITY" light comes on sometimes. Checked fuse-OK. 2] "TRACTION CONTROL" light comes on sometimes. 3] Speedometer sometimes fluctuates severly. Security system problem drains power from battery & must be recharged. Replaced alternator & battery recently. Had new alternator & battery tested & both were OK. When radio is turned on, the situation worsens. All fuses checked OK. The instrument panel is all digital. I recently purchased this car, & the electronic/digital system has never worked properly. Today after using the car, I heard a thumping noise coming from the area above the emergency brake pedal. Turned out to be the security system engaged without the horn blowing. This is high mileage car w/126,000+. It's just a 2nd car. I don,t want to invest a lot of money in it. 1999 Cadillac Deville w/ 4.6 Northstar

I would install a bypass kit and this will disable your anti theft system so that you don't lose battery power and will also upgrade the car with a remote starter. Click on the link below to view the kit:

no starts have 4 basic causes, (all cars, since 1920)
1: lost DC power, to spark or fuel systems.
2: Lost compression in one or more cylinders, 150PSI min.
3: lost spark (5 minute test ,with a tests sparkplug.
3: bad fueling, too much or too little.

there are simple tests using simple and cheap tools for each tests.

If it is an aftermarket system you should be able to disconnect it.
You may have to look for extra wires attached to the fuse box to find the source of power.
Factory systems usually have the word security in the cluster.

Car running rough at lower speeds; Check engine light, traction control, Cruise control light on, S# light flashing.

Have you had the computer checked for trouble codes yet ?
The codes would point you in the right direction to look for the cause.

1995 Buick Riviera SC: traction and the security light

traction switch is located next to drivers left knee on bottom of dash....you should be able to turn off the traction light there by just turning on the traction control.....the security light is telling you that there is a problem with your security system....could just need a new key with a new computer chip....make sure the key is clean and dry when using so it can read the chip....the security light comes on whenever your start the car and stays on for approximatley 2 minutes and then should go out....it is just a reminder....try this and see if it works....lock the door using the power switch on door.....close door and see if the security light comes on....watch and it should go out after about 2 minutes...if it does then your alarm is activated and working....to disarm you need to unlock the driver door with the key...anything else will set the alarm off and the lights will start flashing and the horn honking...after you set the alarm off you will always have to use the key to unlock the drivers door to turn off the alarm and reset the security system.

Saturn L300 2002-security light blinks, running lights blink,

Several GM products, including the Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, the Oldsmobile Alero, the Pontiac Grand Prix, and Saturn Ion, have issues with the Security light coming on. This is many times an indication of a failing Body Control Module (BCM). Initially, the Security light will come on then go off, progressing to a constant on light, before the car will refuse to start. Other symptoms may include erratic action of electronics, a clicking sound coming from the glove box, and the air conditioning failing to blow cold air. I recommend a shop that specializes in the electronic systems of vehicles to diagnosis and make the necessary repairs. They should keep the car until they replicate the symptoms described. A new BCM from GM should cost about $230; plan on another $200 for them to diagnose the problem, replace the unit, and program the new unit. The dealers quote between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. My experience and the experiences I have read on the internet, indicate the new BCM should last only about a year.
