DEXCOOL. It may be a good time to have the system Pressure Tested to make sure there are no leaks and the coolant replaced.

Coolant leak, unknown location

There is a compression tester for the radiator. It is a special cap that fits on and you pump it up. This will allow you to look for the leak with the engine cold and not running.

My 2007 Chevy HHR 2.2L, coolant temp sensor is reading that the coolant temp is 20 degrees warmer than the outside temp after sitting for over 12 hours and the operating temp gets to 214 degrees without...

Sure the engine coolant will be warmer than the outside temperture and if the car has been sitting a long time in cold weather and the outside temperture warms up it could be the other way around. The coolant temperture sensers aren't real accurate as they are a relaitive senser beween hot and cold and the numbers reported don't have to be real just the change from hot to cold and the reching of the coolant to the operating temperture. Noe it the senser doesn't read the opertating temperture coprrectly you'll have all kinds of problems. The therostaste will try to set the temperture of the water to it's set temperture and can open or close completly to get 195 degrees F. Many times if it's too cold then the stat is bad and needs to be replaced This shows up in alot of cars first thing after winter and the first onset of cold weather when the daily tempertures vary the most from day to night.

My low coolant light comes on but their is coolant in the tank, whats wrong counld you tell me?

Is the coolant level in the resivoir up to the cold mark when the engine is cold? if so than the coolant level switch is most likely bad. You will need to remove the coolant tank to replace the switch

Need to change coolent in radiater ,does this take a special kind of coolent and do i need to use a special type of radiater flush. Also is there a drain on the radiater?

You don't need to use a special kind of radiator flush, but the coolant is called DEX COOL. It's made by prestone specifically for GM engines, you can get it at walmart for like 5 bucks.

  • Difficulties with starting a cold engine.
  • Starting the engine when engine is warmish or warm, idle rpm immediately is 1200 - 3000 rpm.
  • RPM at idle is irregular.
  • With all engine temperatures idle rpm will often vary between 900 - 1000 rpm.
  • With engine warm (90 °C) the engine temperature suddenly drops (70 °C) and slowly comes back to 90 °C.
  • Bad acceleration during warm-up.
  • Diesel Engines: Glow plug indicator may be on for a longer than normal time or at ambient temperatures where it shouldn't come on at all.
Possible Causes
  • The electrical signal coming from G62 is too low
  • Wiring and/or connections faulty (short circuit?)
  • Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) faulty
Possible Solutions
  • Check wiring and connections
  • Check / Replace Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62)
Special Notes
  • In many cars between MY 1995-2002 the G2/G62 had a bad reputation for failing often. The original G2/G62 sensor is black and the improved replacements are green.

Coolant light comes on for about 1 minute on 2003 Ford Escape. Do I need to add coolant or flush?

This usually means add coolant.
With the engine cold, take the radiator cap off. Its probably low on coolant, fill it up and put the cap back on.Also check the overflow reservoir and if needed fill it to the cold line. You probably have a coolant leak that needs to be fixed.

How to take out fan clutch

you need a special tool(fan clutch removal tool), autozone will let you borrow for free with a security deposit. Make sure engine is cold. Remove negative battery terminal1. Drain all coolant, and remove top radiator hose. 2.remove fan shroud on radiator(transmission cooler lines may need to be disconnected and slide off the fan clutch harness on the RH side). 3.loosen fan bolts on fan clutch. 4. use fan clutch tool to unbolt main fan clutch bolt. 5. Unplug fan clutch electrical harness. Reverse to install!! NOTE: You may need to reprogram the ECU if you install a new fan clutch and your check engine light comes on. Make sure you refill coolant with GMs recommended dexron coolant. Hopefully this helps....please rate....thanks!!

High Idle

I have a 2001 Nissan Altima and mine did the same thing. We replaced the intake gasket. It costs around $5.50, but it requires several different kinds of tools. We spent over $100 in special sockets, etc. But once you replace that gasket, it will idle better.
