Question about 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette

1 Answer

Gas Gage is unstable. One moment it registered that the tank is completely full and then moments later it shows it is completely empty and then it jumps up to being mid level. Is there a problem with the gas tank?

The fuel level sensor is bad. I would recommend replacing the Fuel Pump Module which will be a new pump and fuel level sensor. If its been replaced already, sometimes using Chevron Fuel Injection Cleaner TECHRON will clean the contacts and MAY get it working again.

My gas gauge is stuck how do I fix it on a 1970 olds delta 88

if you disconnect the wire at the sensor or down from the sensor were you can get to it the gage should register empty and if you disconnect the ground it should register full. if nothing happens then the gage on the dash is bad, if gage moves the fuel level sensor in the tank is bad.

It doesnt register the gas level either its always full or empty.

There is a float in your gas tank, it is probably broken. This is the part that reads the level of gas in your tank. Probably an expensive fix.

Fuel gage not working .Gage goes up and down even when full of gas. Any suggestion, 180,000 km thanks Tony

The sending unit is bad and it is internal to the fuel tank. Does not appear to be available separately but only available with the fuel pump as a complete unit. Bad news... it is quite expensive. Two part suppliers I've checked run from $286 to $321 (depending on the warranty), plus you'll have to drop the fuel tank to install it or pay to have it done. Might be a tough decision to decide if it's worth repair or just to live with it.

Gas gage constantly says full when it's not!

Unfortunately this is most likely the fuel pump module, which includes the fuel level sensor also. This should be diagnosed more thoroughly with a scanner, a good scanner will be able to check instrument cluster separately to confirm the gage is working right, and check for trouble codes that may not light any warning lamps. Hope this helps. Rate me please.P.S. Dont use that fuel station any more.

Gas gauge not woking properly gas tank only accepts a little gas

a fuel sending unit seems to be the most popular solution. the part is about $40. I think the labor is what's going to kill you.

Fuel level sensor in tank bad????

Yes it is all one unit, and yes that is what the problem is. don't use aftermarket parts, use OEM, (Delco Remy) they are much better quality.

When empty fuel gage show full, I put 2 gallons of gas and it show 1/2 full

If your lucky, it's the wire harness from the frame to the gas tank. If your not lucky, it's the sending unit in the gas tank and that's expensive.
