Question about Lexus RX 300

1 Answer

I have a Lexus RX 300 with 133,000 miles. The car hesitates from stop to first gear about 10% of the time. It makes a a repetitive sound like clearing one's throat 10 times. It runs fine through the other speeds. My mechanic performed a transmission service, it did not help.

Well ask mechanic to have another look as changing the transmissions oil will make absolutely no difference ,which is why modern cars have no dipstick they do not never need changing as they do not get dirty as their is no combustion in a auto gearbox so you wasted your money big time ,now what you should have done was to have the vehicle diagnosed correctly in the first place instead of paying out for something that is all pure profit for someone. This fault could be anything from a engine misfire to split flex drive plate on the torque converter so i would drive around a few local garages and ask for a mechanic to have a drive and see whats wrong and do not let them charge you for this service either ,lead them on so they think they are getting the job and make some excuse about paying credit card off then bringing car back at end of week .REPEAT do not pay for this road test

Vsc light on my lexus rx 350 2007 .

I'm not sure about the Lexus, but Nissan and other vehicles with the VSC usually will be on until you can drive on a straight road for approximately 2-3 miles without stops and about the same speed during the reset process. The interstate or some type of hwy will reset this light once the vehicle has learned the Vehicle Stabilization Control in which is learned by the way you drive and enables the car to have stable control. Hope this helps out, if this doesn't work, I would take it in for more diagnostics.

I have had a pinging under my hood since I bought my ES 350 brand new two years ago I complained and complained after 52000 miles they just called and they are picking up my car and replacing the cam shaft...

There have been very limited issues with this engine, often times they are sporadic and hard to pinpoint, but Lexus takes the correct approach, rather than leave you hanging. Once an intermittent problem comes to light they will work very hard to make you happy, as long as they can pinpoint it. Tolerance for assembly in a Lexus is 3 times as stringent as a Toyota, you are driving the number 1 brand in reliability 14 years running
The 3.5 liter engine is shared by the GS, best selling RX and the IS350 and several Toyota vehicles as well.. It is VERY reliable but the odd one has an issue.
Relax , enjoy your free loaner and the ES when it returns...for many more miles.....You said it all , they are picking up the car for you, that is service!!!!!

Random clicking noise when key is engaged but stops

The sound is a relay switching over when you insert the key and power the vehicles accesories. It is a normal sound, but whatever that relay powers may fail soon. It sounds like the small electromagnet inside won't hold the voltage, hence the clicking sound.

Transmission!

Transmission problems in the RX300 are common for those who never flush the transmission fluid. I would strongly urge you to quit driving your RX300 and get it to a dealership where they can flush the transmission fluid. There is no transmission fluid filter (per say) but there is a "screen" inside the transmission that needs to be flushed out (this serves as the filter). Pull out your dipstick for the transmission and smell the transmission fluid - does it smell burned? I hope not, but regardless, take it to a dealership and get the tranny flushed and see if that makes a difference. Also, continue to flush the transmission every 60,000 miles at most! Lexus says that you do not need to flush the transmission, but I think you do. I have a 2001 Lexus RX300 and I have had no problems with the tranny and I've flushed it at 60,000 miles and then again at 115,000 miles. I now have just a little over 120,000 on it. It's a good running vehicle but you need to care for it!
