Is this problem repeatable? Does it only happen once in a while or everytime you start the vehicle? Does it start to function after driving for a while? Do the instrument panel lights work? Is there a difference if the temperature is warm or cold? When it is working, is it reasonably accurate, as far as you can tell?

This is a bad connection at the instrument panel. You will have to pull the bezel off to get to the panel. usually the plug is just loose and all it takes is to pull it out then reinsert it. some times you have to bend the tabs a little. and very rarely you have to do a little soldering. when you get it out you can usually tell which termenal was loose, it looks burnt.

94 jeep wrangler runs 45 seconds then shuts down

You will have to figure out what is quitting when the engine stops.
If you are loosing fuel to the injectors, it could be a pump relay, or something with the injectors.
If you can spray carb cleaner into the throttle body and keep it running, look for a fuel problem.

I have a 1997 JGC V6 lately I noticed that the gauges don't work when the key is in the run position and the jeep wont start. If it sits for a while then I turn the key the gauges come on and the jeep...

Are you the only driver for this vehicle?
Next time when you refill up,DO NOT TOP OFF THE GAS.
When the gas pump stop, just let it stop. DO NOT TRY to put more into the take.
When topping off,the fuel sensing float is push BEYOND it limit. It will create a short on the wiring to the gauage.
Please ran few tank WITHOUT TOPPING off and see does the flow return to normal and not creating a short.
The fuel pump and gas level sensor is in the same unit. It's costly to pull the gas tank down and replace it.
