SOURCE: 20 amp ignition fuse keeps blowing

I'm curious, does this vehicle have an alarm/remote starter? If so I expect the installer didn't wire it correctly ... it was an all too frequent issue, with inexperienced installers we had .... I would first suspect any add-on device first (if any) ... In answer to your question ... I know it does have a relay (Starter solenoid is a relay and built onto the starter) As far as it being a relay or the IGN switch ... I'm skeptical.

Hi

Have you checked the EGR valve, and or the air flow sensor? both could cause it not to start!

Also ensure the earth battery lead has a good connection to the car body from the battery.

Please get back to me if your unsure about these parts.

Dan

SOURCE: 98 grand cherokee asd relay blowing fuse

The fuse it doing it's job, you have a short ( Wire that is connected to a ground, that draws too much power )

If you have an electrical schematic ( Repair manual ) find out which wires are connected to that fuse and check them for any chaffing, cuts, unnesassary twists, or corrosion.

If you have a ohm-meter, isolate the system ( by disconnecting the fuse, and other connections. Then check for any resistance on wires that should not be connected ( because you disconnected them ) by having one Lead on the wire's connector and the other meter-lead on your car's frame. A good wire will not have continuity if it is isolated.

There are a lot of things involved in this starting system . A couple of control modules , ( BCM )- body control module ,( PCM )- powertrain control module . A starter relay in the ( BJB ) - battery junction box, A fuse # F28 15 amp in the BCM , supply's the ignition switch . Fuse # F89 40 amp. starter relay feed. With two modules involved I would bet there are codes stored in one of them. You can test from the relay base, test for power an to see if the module is controlling the relay ! PCM is powertrain control module. ASD is automatic shutdown. The PCM operates the Automatic Shutdown relay and fuel pump relay. The ASD relay supplies power to the fuel injectors and ignition coil. The fuel pump relay connects power to the fuel pump.

I have a clicking noise on the automatic shutdown relay vehicle wont start unless the clicking goes away

Hi Dave,
The Automatic Shutdown Relay is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
The first thing I would do is to do a THOROUGH check of your charging system. When the battery starts getting sulfated, it can cause the PCM to start acting really erratically. (They tend to get delirious from malnutrition)

I think fuse 11 is transmission control module, powertrain control module, automatic shutdown relay, fuel pump relay.. most likely it could be an issue with the wirings from the tranny. Check this one out before opening the conduit
