Question about 1992 Toyota Celica

1 Answer

1992 Toyota Celica GT-S 2.2L 5sfe engine My car was used to jump another vehicle with a dead battery but polarity was reversed (FYI: I was not present.) In summation, the car ran and drove extremely well and was properly maintained before the polarity was reversed. The 5sfe engine will start but not run. It seems to be getting fuel, air, and compression. The spark looks weak, but not extremely weak. Could reversed polarity have damaged an ignition coil? What other ignition system devices have sensitive components such as diodes in them on a 2.2L 5sfe engine? More Information: The battery was ruined, therefore replaced. The Regulator and all of the diodes were replaced in the damaged alternator. The 100 Amp Alternator fuse was blown and replaced. The Fuel Pump seemed damaged and was replaced. Lights, Wiper Motors, and Horn are all functioning and did not sustain damage. All remaining fuses and relays are intact and functional. The fuel pump initiates properly and I can hear it pumping. Also, there is adequate fuel pressure through the fuel filter and fuel appears to be getting to the plugs. Also, engine will start and immediately die with either carb cleaner or gasoline placed through the air intake of the fuel rail.

Difficult one this anfd i do hope more experts read it and have a think about it ,now engine will run with ether spray ,or petrol down air intake so the problem has to be fuel related ,so firstly check for fuel pressure into the fuel rail ,on the end is a car tyre like valve so push this down and check the pressure to see if it squirts ,if it has pressure then use a meter to check the current to the injectors but as its a pulse then use a dwell meter or a scope as i think the ECU could be damaged and its not pulsing the injectors to make them open allowing fuel through ,but i could be wrong of course ,it may pay to have the ECU repaired in specialist company to eliminate this as a source of your problem .

I have done the exact same thing in my 92 celica. Have now done swap of EVERYTHING but a sensor I found in the back of the motor. It has two vacuum hoses and something else of another vacuum thing, but also plugs into the ignition somehow. If that ain't it, then tell me what you did, to fix yours. Tryed new ECU wasn't it

1990 toyota celica gts 2200 motor vibration when idled up

You may want to check your motor mounts. If the mounts are broken or just too old they will cause the engine to have excessive vibration your notice also when shifting to drive or reverse it will feel like the vehicle jumps. replacing the mounts will help if they are damaged or may be that the vehicle needs a tune up.

1992 celica wont start and now battery is dead

Engine starting depend on the following systems:
1. Fuel system (fuel level, fuel filter, fuel pump pressure etc).
2. Ignition system.(Ignition fuse, spark plugs, spark plug cords, distributor signal, ignition coil, and ignition switch)
3. Battery. (11.4 V - 14 V)
4. Cylinder compression. (145 psi - 190 psi, valve clearance)
5. Starter rpm (250 rpm)

1992 toyota celica has no spark

5sfe engine? Check primary and secondary coil resistance. get back to me with values. If any value reads open, then it's bad. I will cross reference your values with my manual. I've had a problem with no spark, and both times it was the distributor. This is an all in one build. It has the pri and sec coils built into it. You'll kow if it's the same if your cap has only 4 wires coming out of it. It will not have a 5th because the coil is not external. BTW, the first time I had a problem, the coild read per the manual however, changing the distributor assembly fixed the problem.

Toyota celica 1990 5sfe auto

The 5sfe is notorious for distributor problems. You'll get correct resistance readings on the primary and secondary coils, but your spark looks weak. Should see a bright blue spark with an audible POP when sparking. On some 5sfe engines, the coils are located in an all-in-one pacakage inside the distributor. You'll know if you have this one if the only large spark plug type wires connected to the distributor cap count 4 and go to the 4 cylinders. There will not be a center wire coming from a coil. This is the distributor that has issues. I am on my third one now. Same symptoms every time. I know exactly what to change when it happens, and it fixes it every time. Luckily, It's only about $95 if you do your searching well enough. Good luck
