Pressure builds up in radiator. overflowing thru cap. new thermostate. 10 lbs. 300 cid 6 banger. is head gasket blown?

More than likely, check coolant resevoir for oil, check for heavy white smoke coming from exhaust and do a compression test.

R/T. overheated. Why is white smoke coming from the tailpipe?


might be steam coming out tail pipe. If steam you may have a blown head gasket which could put water into the cylinder that gets turned into steam and put out tail pipe.
If compression is getting into cooling system via blown head gasket then pressure builds in cooling system. A radiator repair place may be able to pressure test via the radiator cap to see if this is occurring while the engine is running.
If you have an alloy head you may also have cracked the head
A warped head is another possible problem .
This is expensive to fix as the engine head has to be sent to a head repair place to be fixed.
A compression test on your cylinders may give a diagnosis on if there is a head gasket problem .
The warps or cracked head can only be found out when the mechanic checks the head after pulling the top of the engine apart.

Losing coolant


Wait for the cooling system to cool down. Remove the radiator cap, start engine and watch for bubbles in the tank. If you have bubbles the possibilities of a bad head gasket is suspected. To verify a suspected head gasket, leave the radiator cap on and tighten. Start the engine, using a heavy towel or rag loosen the radiator cap SLOWLY. If pressure is evident only after a minute of running.....=Blown head gasket!

could be a air pockets in the coolant system that have top bled out
it is a simple exercise to have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracked head

When running water trickles out of overflow hose non stop. 99 sunfire


You either have a bad radiator cap or you have a problem with your engine like a blown head gasket That is causing too much pressure to build up on your cooling system.

Check the cap first. Remove the cap and look at the rubber seals up inside of it. If they are cracked or have a lot of cruddy deposits built up on them, then replace the cap and try it again.
If the cap is in good condition, then I would have the engine tested for a blown head gasket.

it is the head gasket blown from the cyl to the water jacket ,a radiator specialist can test for combustion gases in the water to confirm this ,but that is what it is . "youdoit"

Water backs up in overflow tank and actually runs


yeah most likely a blown head gasket. if it blew across to a cylinder then compression will build pressure in the cooling jackets of the head and into the cooling system

Coolant coming out of the overflow spout after shutting down.


about 100K miles? sounds like a blown head gasket is allowing coolant to be pushed out the exaust,and combustion pressure is pushing fluid out the overflow.have your compression tested.

Fiat Car Overheating


Ok, Take the overflow hose out of the overflow tank and opput the end in a glass or jar of water. Start the motor and watch gfor bubbles coming out of the hose in the water.. Little tiny smokey white bubbles mean you have a combustion leak into your cooling system. Possible head gasket seapage.good luck
