Question about 2004 Nissan 350Z

1 Answer

The brakes on my '05 350z needed new rotors on the front and new pads all around after 30,000 miles. Midas did the work and the brakes have squealed ever since. I would like to do the brake work myself this time. I have done it before on various other vehicles. Are the brakes on a 350z any different than other cars to work on?

My brother in law is a mechanic and he did the barkes and rotors in less than 30 minutes on mine. They are fairly easy to do as I sat in on the process.

Why squeaky brakes on jeep

front or rear.??? my guess front.... wild guess.
if car has pads with the noise makers this is normal and the early warning.
if pads are thick (why not look first???) and squeal.?
  1. this is normal all disc brakes squeal, can and will if they want to.
  2. or has missing anti-squeal shims on pad due bad mech. serv.
  3. or not using anti-squeal glue on back side of new pads.
  4. if in a perfect world they can in fact squeal.
if you have new rotors and pads and all above is good. they may not squeal. the rotors can be tad bump and the pads will resonate to this rotor surface, its harmless this. only annoying.

other factors, why not do a full inspection of the pads and rotors
first and not just guess and wonder.
like:
OMG:
  • Cracked rotors
  • leaking DOT 3/4
  • calipers guide pins seized.
  • Pads shot
  • missing parts, the FSM shows all parts as does jeep parts page.
  • rotors shot , worn illegally thin, warped, or just ugly bad and old.
this is what we call SOP
standard operatiing proceedures.

It only has 30,000 miles on it and the rear brakes squeal when applied when first driven cold. Does not do it after it has been driven and warmed up.

brakes typically only last about mas 30k miles. might be the brake lining warning shims letting you know its low or that plus glazed rotors/ drums needing to be replaced and or cut.

How often should I have to replace the front brake pads and front rotors on a 2004 Toyota Sienna? We had them done at 30,000 and the dealer this morning says that we need them done again at 57,000 (two...

this sounds about right, 30,000 miles for mostly local runs, but rotors should be resurfaced instead of replaced every brake job, aset of good rotors can be cut at least twice between brake jobs.

I would suggest that you take it to another shop and have the system checked by a technician.A good pad to install is wagner thermo quiet brake pads and have them check the thickness of the rotors also.A good technician will check your complete braking system to make sure there are no faulty parts.

Brake squeal

You, Probably will, Brake Squeal is NOT a new problem.
Disc brake's have been Squealing since, They, became
factory installed on chevrolet in 1971. Before, that they,
were a option. In 72 they even had a bulleton how, to
FIX it. And, no it didn't work.
With That said, Any time you replace Brake pads you,
should always re-surface the Rotors.
Why? First you may start to notice a pulsation as the
pads ware (sometimes! ) The best way to avoid, brake
squeal is to manchine the Rotors put, the blue membrain
sealent on the back side of the pads. And hope that works!!
Some brakes Pads squeal JUST SQUEAL??
You, Could do the same Brake job the same as you did
this one and, they may NOT Squeal.WHY, I WISH I NEW. They
sell all types of STUFF to stop Brake noice DON'T waste your $$.

How long should I be able to expect my brakes and rotors to last? I have a two year old car with less than 30,000 miles on it. 2007 Saturn Vue. I don't know what the Green Line is supposed to mean but it...

it all depends on your driving conditions if you have a lot of stop and go traffic everyday you will wear them out alot faster than highway travel. generally a good set of brakes especially original brakes should last about 50,000 miles if not driven to hard or under extreme conditions, most rotors can be machined atleast once before having to be replaced with new ones unless your vehicle runs composite rotors they will have to be replaced everytime you have new pads installed.

Rear brakes (driver-side) squeal after replacing rotors and pads

you need to grease the metal clips at the top and bottom of the pads (dont get grease on the rotor or pad though) and also spray some "disc brake quiet" on the back of the pads. it comes in a red can and the spray that comes out is like sticky red paint. do those 2 things and the squeals will be gone.

Front or rear brakes?
Make sure the rotor isn't contacting the backing dust plate.
Make sure the brake pad slider clip/clips are not contacting the rotor.

325 ci brake rotors have been replaced 4 times in 6 years

BMW rotors are not known for lasting very much more than 30-45k miles. When the brakes are inspected, they measure the pads using a special tool threw the outer brake pad. Min spec is 3mm. When the pads are replaced, they measure the thickness of the rotors. The rotor spec is stamped on the rotor. if they are under that spec, they recommend replacing them as well. Next time you bring it in for service, just ask them to measure the rotor thinkness, (its not a huge task, all they have to do is take the wheels off). But more often than not, the rotors wear just as fast as the pads.

2005 Dodge Durango Front Brake Squeal

Did you buy factory pads or get cheap aftermarket pads? If aftermarket did you get the ceramic? The cheap aftermarket ones tend to squeal pretty bad. Like the last comment on here, you should have your rotors turned whenever you change the pads.
