Hi there!

As a general rule, fit it over grooved pulleys, then bring it over the tensioner pulley to run on the flat side. It will only go on in one position.

I'll search for a diagram for you if you give the engine details.

Sorry to make another comment ,

But I forgot to mention that whilst I was researching your problem ,

I saw an awful lot of Escort zx owners complaining of repeated fan belt failures , not that this is pleasing to hear for you , but I thought I'd bring it up as it may assist somebody in some way..

Just google ford+escort+zx2+serpentine for more details ,
you dont even have to add the word +fault !!!

Pulley making noise

You have several pulleys with bearings in them. The Serpetine belt rides on several pulleys and there are slight differences in the size of those pulleys.

Usually you take off the Serpetine belt and turn each pulley to detect roughness. Then get the appropriate pulley off and replace it.

Sometimes water pump pulleys also make noise as well as Alternators.

How to install serpetine belt on a 2002 pontiac grand am 6cylinder

There should be a belt diagram underneath the hood by the latch that will show you how to put the belt on properly there will be a spring loaded tensioner pulley that you will attach a wrench to to push the pulley so it releases tension so you can get the belt on an off

2004 ford taurus chirping noise when engine revs

Hello, There are several things which can do this. First, cut off the A/C and then rev the engine as before. If the chirping goes away, the noise was either the A/C clutch or the Serpetine belt slipping with the load. For the A/C clutch, you can try a little rust removal between the drive plate and the pulley with the engine OFF. You can use sandpaper and try to knock off the rust. Then put a little oil on to condition the metal. Then try it with the A/C on.

If the chirp is still there, you have to check bearings on the Pulley tensioner, Alternator, Water pump, and Power steering. It is possible for the Pulley tensioner to have a weak spring or you may have a stretched Serpetine belt. This condition would cause the belt to skip under a load. If the belt is checked with small cracks, just replace the belt. Take off the tensioner and compare the spring tension and wobble in the pulley to a new unit at the Autoparts store.

If still no success, the chirp could be a water pump bearing. The old way off using a piece of wood on the housing of a part while the engine is running is dangerous, but effective. I believe you should have already found your problem before this measure is needed. Dry Serpetine belts make quite a lot of noise and is probably your problem.

I hope my Solution is very helpful to you.

I have a 1999 Mercury Sable. A bearing in a pully loked up, think it was airconditioner but not sure, anyways the serpentine belt broke. Is this the timing belt? Can I put another belt on it without...

There is no problem with reinstalling the Serpetine Belt. But what have you done about the pulley that is locked up?

You need to find the bad pulley or you will smoke a belt before you leave the driveway. Unplug the wire on the A/C clutch pulley if the compressor is locked up. You need to do this because the A/C will cycle when the dash is set to Defrost setting as well as on AIR.

The idler pulley is the spring loaded tensioner. It is common to lock up. If this pulley is bad, you can keep using the A/C and just replace the Idler pulley.

Check the Alternator, water pump, anything that turns to find the lockup. The timing is done inside the engine with a steel timing chain and is not a part of the Serpetine belt.

Serpetine belt and pulley replacement, idler pulley looks bent, does it maybe shift to allow belt to go on easier?

The pulley moves in and out to put the proper tension on the belt. If it looks bent, it is bent. GM idler pulleys routinely need replacing before the belt does.

Tryin to put on serpetine belt i got a diagram but need to know how it fits on

You can put it all of the pulleys, including the "tensioner" pulley except one that is easy to reach. Then with a wrench or socket handle on the tensioner pulley, push or pull on it making slack in the belt giving you enough slack to slip it on the last pulley. The belt is then under the tension created by the spring loaded tensioner pulley.

1993 beretta serpentine belt diagram

well its hard to describe but here goes. the belt will run across the top from the PS pump to the alt. from the alt to the inside of the water pump, then to the outside of the a/c comp . then around the crank pulley, then up to the inside of the tensioner, then up around the outside of the PS pump. It will be easier to put the belt around all the pulleys except the alternator, release the tensioner and with the belt loose, slide it over the alt pulley. GOOD LUCK. I hope you fixed the problem with the belt, they just dont fall off for no reason. ck tensioner pulley, water pump.
