This sounds like a restricted heatercore, remove the two hoses to heatercore, take a waterhose and blow water through the heater core connections to clear out the core, i use two peices of heater hose, i slde them onto heatercore where the hoses were removed then put the hose nozzle against one end of the hose and blast water into core and see what comes out the other end then do the same on the otherside, this is to me done a few times until clean water flows out and i will bet it will solve the heat problem, because at idle theres not enough force for the coolant to flow through the core and when you rev the engine it forces coolant through the restricted core, hope this helps, good luck.

No heat in heater when idiling when reviv motor up has a little heat and heats up when ideling in traffic

Sounds like you may have combustion gasses creating an air lock in the cooling system. Or plugged heater core / radiator. Definitely a circulation problem of some kind either flow of hot antifreeze is restricted or the heater should blow very hot air especially when the car heats up so long as all the ducting and heater controls are functioning properly. If the vehicle has been overheated you more than likely have combustion gasses in the cooling system. Water pump will not work properly for combustion gasses that mix with coolant. Check to see if the coolant is beginning to get a little oily and dirty, this will indicate combustion gasses entering cooling system.

I'd take it to another place to get it looked at. Does your car overheat? Are there cold spots on the radiator after the car is warmed up? The heater is very closely associated with the cooling system. Sometimes a bad radiator can cause problems with the heater. You will be able to tell if the control flaps are working if air is coming out of the proper vents on the settings they are supposed to.

Blows only cold air and car overheats when idiling too long.

it could be an air lock, undo a clip on the topmost hot heater hose to see if air comes out(when hot) try this first cos there are other associated problems.

My 1991 4cyl toyota pickup died while idleing. What are some suggestions on things to look at?

A diagnostic scan is always a good place to start, even if there is no check engine light on. Ignition...are you getting fire to the spark plugs? Fuel pressure, fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, air filter not restricted? Battery fully charged, terminals clean and tight? These are a few basics needed for proper engine mangement.
Good luck...hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.
