The first thing you can do is listen and see if you can hear the fuel pump when when you turn the key to the run position. The pump should run for 3-5 seconds. If you can't hear it run than there will be a fuel pressure test port located on the fuel rail (the part that feeds fuel to the injectors). Remove the black cap and press in the valve with a small screwdriver making sure you are clear of it as it can shoot out gas a long way if there is pressure in the system.

If you get a dribble than the next thing to check is for power to the fuel pump. You'll need to get under the car and find the wiring harness that goes to the fuel pump. Check for power on the larger grey wire. It helps to have somebody assist you. There will be power for 3-5 seconds when the key is turned to the run position and any time the key is in the crank position. If there is power than you basically just diagnosed a bad fuel pump.

Another thing you can do is spray some carb spray into the throttle while somebody cranks over the engine. If the car starts than you know you have a fuel issue. If it does not start than you might have a spark issue.

A fuel plugged filter can cause driveability problems but will rarely if ever cause the vehicle not to start.

First check fuel pressure. If its ZERO, then check if power is going to fuel pump. Its not a job for a Do it yourselfer. The filter will need to be replaced when replacing the fuel pump.

Just purchased a 2002 Nissan Sentra and 3-5 days later the car began shutting off when stopped on several occasions and starting back up. Lastly the car shut off while in park and would not start up again...

Next time it does it. try hitting the fuel tank. a couple times if necessary. if it starts back then your fuel pump is dieing. some times when the pump heats up they will stop working, only to come on latter. let me know

SOME DAYS MY 2001 FORD F150 WON'T START THE BATTERY IS FINE AND IGINITION TURNS OVER. AN HOUR OR 2 LATER IT MAY START. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

Faulty ignition coil would be my first guess. Check for spark when it's turning over. If you have spark, then you're lacking fuel. Change fuel filter. Then check fuel pump for operation. Let me know what happens when you get that far.

1991 subaru legacy. The car would not start. I change the fuel filter and tapped on the fuel pump. It started. A few days later same thing. Tapped on the fuel, worked again. A few days later same thing....

You should have a fuse & a relay. Check # 11 fuse it should be 15 amp.& may be for your fuel pump. Do you have owners manual by chance, or does cover of fuses have label?
