Question about 1996 Honda Civic
Check your oil by pulling the dipstick. If it looks like there's coffee on it then you have an issue with either your head gasket, head or block - regardless it's time to have a shop look at it, as these are all complicated multi - step procedures . I would not drive it as you may kill the motor by driving -have it towed.

The problem is related to head-gasket.It sounds like it could be a blown headgasket. There is only one way to know for certain and that's by doing a leakdown test. You can check compression first if you want, your reading may be a little high on one cylinder if its got a leak. The head gasket needs to be replaced if its its blown or leaky head gasket.get it checked and confirmed.

Tips for a great answer:
White smoke: White smoke is caused by water and or antifreeze entering the cylinder, and the engine trying to burn it with the fuel. If white smoke is present, check to see if the proper amount of antifreeze is inside the radiator and the overflow bottle. Also check to see if antifreeze has contaminated the engine oil. You can look at the engine oil dipstick, or look at the under side of the engine oil filler cap. If the oil is contaminated with antifreeze, it will have the appearance of a chocolate milkshake. Do not start the engine if the oil is contaminated with antifreeze, as serious internal engine damage can result.
It is also possible to be a engine problem you should immediate visit a car service.
