Question about 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

I have a '99 vw beetle diesel that did not make any noise at all when I tried to start it this morning. The lights were working and the battery was replaced 2 months ago when a new alternator was installed. The temp was approx 45-50 in the garage. Could this be the starter or glow plugs?

Will try to help. your problem most likely are your glow plugs, unless you're not waiting on the wait tostart light to go off before you attempt to start it. you can try cycling the key switch several cylcles before attempting to start it. that works most of the time. easy fix to just replace the glow plugs. they heat the cylinder up to start the car in any weather.please do not attempt to use a starting fluid as you can cause major engine damage!!! thank you for choosing fixya.com

I wnet out of gas on my VW Beetle 2001 last saturday. When I added gas to the tank, the car wouldn't start and the EPC light went on and I haven't been able to get it to start ever since. Would the EPC light have anything to do with the gas pump or anything related to running out of gas?

My 1999 vw beetle won't start in snow

Old new beetle VW harness has contact resistance problems(vibration of wires) and needs to be recrimped the long wires(vibration can be stopped by silicone rubber anchoring). Cold weather make battery voltages low and needs recharged with handbrake on(headlamps off) 10 minutes warming engine up the whole winter.

When I approach stop light and press in clutch to shift down, car stalls. Battery light comes on. Sometimes will restart and be OK until next stop, other times will not restart until it "rests"...

if it is cranking and starting back i would say its not a batt or alternating problem

most likely the reason the batt light is coming on is because its idleing rough as it quits running if it were me i would just drive it to a dealer and save the toe bill

I have a 1999 vw beetle diesel that the starter does not engage when I try to start. I have a new battery that seems to be fully charged but the lights dim when in start mode but there is no noise.

Then remove the electrical starter motor out from the engine, and repair it by replacing the engaging coil & electrical brushes (if necessary).

Start with checking your coolant level( only use VW coolant if low). If full, change out your coolant temp sensor. Buy the one from the dealership. The others are ****.

LOUD RACE CAR NOISES FROM MY 99 VW BEETLE

This seems to be a classic case of "disentegrating exhaust system syndrome." There is either a hole(s) somewhere in your exhaust system or there is a leak somewhere. Probably the easiest way to tell where the noise is coming from is to start your car and just listen around in the engine bay, under the car, and at the muffler. Also do a visual inspection of the exhaust system to see if you can see any holes in the piping. I have also seen hairline cracks in the exhaust header itself that can cause the loud ticking noise that can be a little tricky to track down.
