Question about 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager

2 Answers

My 1994 Voyager does not want to upshift. It stays in 2nd gear. I used to be able to let it warm up, turn it off, restart it and it would shift. It is now stuck and will not go into 3rd gear. It seems this is a computer problem maybe tied to a bad sensor somewhere.

There are "bands" in the transmission and pickup sensors on the ouside which help regulate the shifting. Unfortunately, this is not usually a DIY repair. Any reliable Trans service franchise, (AAMCO for example) should be able to make the repair without emptying your wallet.

The solenoid for upshifting to higher gears is likeley to be bad. The VSS or speed sensor can be tested by driving the vehicle and observing the speedometer representing accurate speed.

This sensor is used for shift points as well.

I think the transmission needs to be flushed and filled for about $100 or so at shop that does this service.

If that does not solve the problem, a rebuild or replacement transmission will be necessary to fix the problem, if you plan on keeping the car.

Warming it up to get it to shift gives me hope that maybe changing the fluid will help, but can't guarantee it will solve the problem completely.

Transmission must be torn down and rebuilt, in my experience.

When 1994 lincoln continetal is warm will not shift into second or reverse

The transmission is failing.
Check fluid for level and quality. If level is low, add transmission one pint (16 ounces) at a time until the level on the dipstick is correct. If the level is good but the transmission fluid is dark in color, tan in color, watery, or obviously burnt, start by having the transmission fluid and filter replaced.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Mileage 132000. 1 to 2 shift normal. Trans. will not upshift into 3rd. gear, goes to 4th. It will downshif to 3rd. from 4th. When the trans. get hot from stop and go...

If tranny fluid is clear and at normal level, then the issue is with the transmission - it is getting ready to go sayonara.

Better get that fix before you get stranded.

My truck is a 1994 chevy K1500 that is stuck in 1st gear you can move the shifter to 2nd but thr tranny stays in 1st

It sounds like you may have a bad shift solenoid. This will cause no upshift. If you have no 2,4 or reverse you have more than a solenoid and it will require you to replace the planetary sun shell. I for your sake hope it's just a solenoid.
I hope this helps.

96 plymouth voyager no shift

you say the fluid looks good... that's great.
now next time your out drive for about ten good minuetes long enough for the transmission to get nice and warm and then pull over to nice level ground and with the vehicle in park check the fluid again. it's kind of hard to read because it always has a lot of bubbles on it and stuff. but it may be low on fluid.. good-luck ray
