I have an 1997 jeep grand Cherokee that is show a P1389 code. It starts fine with no problem and really does not run rough are anything.

That code indicates an open circuit in the auto shutdown circuit, which is odd, because normally a problem there would cause the fuel system to shut off or cause a no-start condition. Get it checked or get a good wiring diagram and trace out the wiring. I'd begin by just swapping out the relay itself. The code should clear after about 50 miles of driving, or you can have the computer cleared with a scan tool..

SOURCE: 1997 jeep grand cherokee... missfires...

hi there, sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator. a bad regulator will cause it to misfire and idle rough. also does it run good at higher rpm if it does i would be 80% sure that would be your problem

Check the condition of spark plugs, if dirty or oily could be the timing gear or timing, wouldn't show a code, if plugs are white suggests lack of fuel, also no code . ( injector cleaner and ethanol remover for the latter ). Repair shop for timing.

Won't start - will crank but won't fire New coil pack, new battery,- trouble shooting code P1389 - checked ASD relay - working fine

If the relay is working fine and you checked it the correct way, then there is a blown fuse or a bad connection in the circuit with either the positive side or negative side of the circuit in the harness.

My 1997 Jeep grand cherokee is running real rough when I accelerate. Now while driving it it keeps stopping but will start right back up? help???

check the cables of the spark plugs, some times it occurs that the cables get loose from its plastic retainers and touch any metal in the engine, causing missfire of the related spark plug, hence rough running of the engine. Put all cables on the retainers making sure none touches the bare metal of the engine. That should help.

fuel pressure seems a bit high...could be a bad regulator. can't remember if yours is on top of the sending unit (on tank) or on the fuel rail though. Do more testing there.

It sounds like a few different things or a combination of more than one.

  1. The EGR valve

saw off the "fixed" hold-down on the distributor and use a chevrolet smallblock hold-down. Once re-installed turn distributor ccw about 1/4" or slightly more. If I'm correct, engine should run fine after that.
