Removal & Installation-of dashboard which includes removing radio.

CAUTION Many BMW models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, properly disable the SRS.
The instrument panel removal is complex and requires disconnecting many components. Make sure to label and organize the components as they are disconnected, disassembled or removed.
3 Series Models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), wait for a period of 11 minutes before proceeding.
  2. If equipped, disable and remove the SRS components as necessary.
  3. Remove center console as outlined in this section.
  4. Remove the glove box compartment as follows:
    1. Open the glove box door and remove glove compartment mounting screws.
    2. Pull glove box compartment outward, and disconnect the electrical connectors as necessary.

  5. Remove lower left dash trim piece as follows:
    1. Remove the lower dash panel mounting screws.
    2. Pull the lower dash panel to the left and back and disengage it from the driver's side footwell retaining clips.

  6. If equipped, remove the driver's side and passenger airbags.

CAUTION Make sure to store the airbags properly in a safe area.
  1. Remove steering wheel.
  2. Remove driver side knee bolster fasteners and remove.
  3. Remove the following components:

Instrument cluster Headlight switch Radio Climate control head and module.
  4. Remove the turn signal and windshield wiper/washer stalk switches as outlined in Section 8.
  5. Remove windshield (A-pillar) trim from both left and right sides.
  6. Remove the reinforcement bar below the steering column, then remove steering column shear bolts. Carefully lower steering lightly and support the column to avoid damaging the spindles.

WARNING Lowering the steering column too far can damage the spindles.
  1. Remove the glove compartment support frame fasteners, then remove the frame assembly.
  2. Carefully release and lift out the defroster outlets (both left and right sides) at base of windshield. Remove the screws located below the outlets.
  3. Remove the mounting bolts on the left and right sides of the dash board assembly.
  4. Carefully lift the instrument trim panel off slowly. Make sure all harness connectors and wiring are disconnected.
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Why would a car have no temperature

Hello, I usually service another Brand, but I would say you should first look at the Sending unit for the water Temperature. There may be 2 sensors on the engine for water temperatures. 1 works the automatic cooling fan and the other goes to the dash gauge.

The part should be reasonable priced and if you go to a good parts supplier, they will have a photo of either sensor and should sell you the right one.

You probably need to drain of some of the coolant, rermove the sending wire and then unscrew the part. When reassembling, use some Teflon tape on the threads or a little ATV to insure a good seal.

If the gauge still does not work, do a continuity test of the wire from the sensor and see if it is not broken. If the wire is good, the sensor new, then it only could be a bad gauge.

I need to replace a foglamp bulb right side.I have fairly easy access to & can see the rubber housing for the bulb, but cannot figure out how to remove it.Do I need to rermove the entire assembly in...

Typically the fog lamp is located in the front bumper assembly. It's usually fairly easy to access and replace these.

Place the car is park, secure parking brake. Use a creeper to scoot under the front end of the car, look up into the bumper. Located the backside of the fog lamp holder. You would usually grab and twist counter clockwise about an inch, then pull straight out. Push in on the bulb while turning counter clockwise until it pulls out of the lamp holder.

These fog lamps usually have a little bit of cushioning grease in the socket. Do not remove the grease or connectivity problems will result with the new fog lamp. Push the new bulb in, turn clockwise until bulb stops turning, release hand pressure.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

piston has contacted the valves that stay open. they are bent and you need to remove the head and replace them and then reinstall the head with the #1 piston at top dead center and the cams for the #1 cylinder both pointing down, this is the end of the compression stroke and the begining of the power stroke. at this point on the valve train and valve springs are affecting the valves, keeping them open and the rocker arms are not affecting the valves and should both be loose. set distributor to fire on cylinder #1.
