This was very common in the 4.9 liter engine. The best solution be to get the heads redone and have new bolts installed because the problem is that the head bolts would bottom out and not get the head tight enough. This would of course allow the gasket to blow out and the issue would continue to happen because the bolts were bottoming out.

there are many was a head gasket can blow . sometimes they just leak to the outside sometimes they leak to the coolant and then it blows out your antifreeze. if you have a blown head gasket you will see it when you pull the head. and yes you should hace the head checked at a machine shop and install with a new head set never reuse a gasket .

I would change both, as well as use new head bolts. Make sure your heads are not warped or cracked, especially the one that is leaking. There may not be any need to change the head if it is not cracked. These are prone to blowing a gasket especially after 150K miles or so. It will not cost a huge additional amount to change both head gaskets since the engine will have to be disassembled down to the heads anyway. Hope this helps you, Rick

Yes rotary motors have head gaskets. Blowing out the radiator? That sounds more like a radiator cap problem more than a blown head gasket. If there is no oil in water or vice versa and no copious smoke from the tail pipe then I'd check the cap and coolant level.

Oil in coolant


Possibly a crack head or blown head gasket. Which allows the motor oil to mix in with your coolant fluid. You car will still run fine but not for long. Take the head apart and have a shop do pressure test on it. If bad, replace the head. Roughly $80.00 - $200 bucks used. If still good, look into the bottom block, maybe that's bad. But mostly it's a cracked head or blown head gasket. If just the blown head gasket, resurface the head and buy new head gasket and re install the head back. Good Luck.

1994 toyota pickup blown head gasket. is that an easy fix? can i do it in my school autoshop and or driveway?


So the first question is ... is it really a blown head gasket? Could also be damaged head, block, etc and the timing chain can wear through it's housing and allow coolant into the oil. If it is a blown head gasket then why did it happen? Is the head warped, coolant passages corroded, or ?? Here's link to

complications you run in to. You may want to have a valve job done while you're there, maybe

There is oil in radiator but is not mixing water in motor


oil in the radiator indicates a blown head gasket, a blown head gasket does'nt always mean that you will get water in the oil,it depends on where the gasket is blown.....hope this helps .....cheers

Blown head gaskets for sure, no way of knowing if heads are cracked without taking it apart, there no quick fix for this, only fix is to take it apart and repair as needed.

If you don't know the extent of the damage do not add any kind of sealers to your motor. It doesn't have to be a blown head gasket. It could be a cracked head. If you add those products you need to understand that they are last ditch efforts to get a little more time out of a motor. After that you can expect to change the entire motor, radiator and the heater core, just to get those off the shelf remedies back out of your vehicle.

Remove the radiator cap,and fill to very top with coolant,then turn the engine over,and see if it pushes out the radiator ,or looks like a water fountain when turning the engine over,if it does,then the head gasket is blown,and possible warped.If not,pull the valve cover to see if the cylinders that are low,have stuck valves,that are open.Check to see if the motor oil is milky in color.If so,the heads could be cracked.Or head gasket blown.
