Where is the idle control valve on a 2000 ford expedition with 4.6L engine? how to clean it? Thanks.

The idle is computer controlled, so its not really adjustable.

Replace/check plugs wires and coils. Helps to use a spark plug tester to isolate a misfire. Next check/clean/ and replace maf sensor, idle control valve, and egr tube/valve.

P1506 - Idle Air Control (IAC) Overspeed Error This DTC is set when the PCM detects engine idle speed that is greater than the desired rpm.

• IAC circuit short to GND
• Damaged IAC valve

Disconnect IAC valve and look for little or no change in engine rpm as an indication of a stuck or damaged valve.

dirty or bad idle air control valve i would at worst the egr valve but most likely the idle air control valve which controls the air and idle from the throttle body try taking it out and cleaning the tip as well as in the throttle body where the control valve goes in if that dosent work replace it and the check engine light does not have to be on for it to be bad.good luck to you.

Do the procedure below to help clear up this problem, it is caused by a sludged up intake tract and idle speed control valve.

check vacuum leaks special idle valve to the pcv valve

it could be many things it could be a bad EGR - valve are a vaccum leak or a bad fuel injection or engine control systems malfunction on my 2000- Expedition i replace the intake manifold itself and the gasket the best thing to do if its that is to get the whole thing from Napa with gaskets its not that hard to do go to your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your SUV also give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com wish you the best of luck and let me know what it was Michigan Man.

so, when the engine is burning a rich mixture, it runs rough. Please take it to an Autozone and ask that they read the ODB messages.

It could be that your idle mixture is too lean. So a fuel system cleaner may be the fix... or a carb cleaner...

Something to get the system to give the engine more fuel on a cool morning.... that will make it better!!-Jim

Actually in most cases this would tell me a a dirty/defective IAC  Idle Air Control valve , these have dropped in price to about 55 buck either that the EGR valve is sticking 

Check the air idle control valve, it may not be working or dirty with carbon build up. Check the wire harness to the valve and try cleaning it with throttle body cleaner, do not use carb cleaner. You might get away with just spraying a Can of throttle body cleaner through the throttle body, follow the instruction on the can and use the whole can. After your done, turn the engine off and place the ignition key to the run position for 30 seconds then turn it to the off position for 10 seconds. Start the car and let idle for 1 min before going for a test drive, that will reset the base line for the air idle control valve.
