Question about 1996 Mazda Protege

Ihave a 1996 mazda protege 1.8 litre engine. The car started a little hard but finally ran. Upon driving away it started runnung real rough so I parked the car. It smelled like raw gasoline inside the car. It never started again. The vaulve cover was removed to inspect the timing belt. There was 25 lbs compression on three cylinders and 100 lbs on the fourth. The timing belt appeared to be 1/2 tooth off and that was corrected with a new belt. Gasoline shoots out of two cylinders when the engine is turned over without the plugs installed. The engine will still not fire or run with the plugs installed. could this possibly be a bad crankshaft position sensor? Does any one have the correct timing marks for this engine. All the help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Rodger

First of all with 3 cylinders 25lbs -1 100lbs. you have a problem with the vavles i think you have some bent vavles thats why low compression on 3 cylinders. check rockers or lifters but thats where it is foresure.

The Stop Leak probably clogged your hearter core
Now you can remove that & try to clean it out or replace
it also

Check the air inlet boot going from the air filter to the intake for rips or holes. If rips exist, this would allow air to bypass the filter and mass air flow sensor and will lead to a check engine light appearing. The code would read "too lean, bank 1." If this problem is allowed to continue for long periods of time, the EGR ports will have to be cleaned out and maybe even the intake.

Drive it under 45 miles per hour. The dough nut spare is designed to just get safely to a place to repair or replace the original tire. So as far as the question of how far can I drive the spare? As little as possible.

1999 Mazda Protege won't start.

Recheck that the spark plug firing order or in other words the spark plug wires are in the proper order after that checks out ok, then run dry gas in the car and check all vacuum hoses there may be a vacuum leak somewhere.

Rough Idle

i would crank the car when it starts reving up and down take a tool of your choice depending on the position of AIC and while acting up firmly tap on it for a few seconds and while you're doing that listen for the enging to change what it's doing.sometimes you can tap on them and get lucky.but if the enging clears up or gets worse when you tap on it you've pin pointed your problem for sure. hope i helped..

Do I need to replace the crank positioning sensor?

the sensor is not to hard to change takes an experienced mechanic a little less tan an hour if it does not brake. it really doesn't hurt your car to run with a faulty sensor but if the sensor competly craps out your car probably won't start i would get it repaired if i were you so your not stranded some where.

Check engine light won't go away

i read it could be the mass air flow sensor and or faulty spark plugs. also be sure to check all the little vaccum hoses for cracks.
