Question about 2007 Pontiac G6 GT Convertible

2 Answers

I just had the oil changed in my '07 g6. The display said it still had 48% oil life left, but it was close to 6 months since the last oil change. The shop said I should have my 'fluids changed', and he only wanted $150 more to do it. I'm tired of going in for a $30 chore and having them try to talk me into spending a couple hundred dollars more. What is a 'fluid change', and how often should it be done?

Fluids refers to motor oil, antifreeze (engine coolant), transmission fluid, brake fluid and power steering fluid. All of these need to be changed but at different time or mileage schedules. Never let oil get over 6,000 miles, regardless of how much oil life is left. Metal particles too small to be caught in the oil filter build up in the oil to high levels which cause harm to your engine. Extended antifreeze lasts for 5 years. But if the antifreeze is cloudy looking, change it. Before each winter test the freeze protection level with an antifreeze tester. Negative 34 degrees is the minimum protection level that you need to have. Transmission fluid varies by mileage for each car. Every 30,000 to 50,000 miles is typical interval for changing it. But check your owners manual to know the exact mileage to change it. Brake fluid change at 3 to 4 year intervals. If the fluid is black and not transparent, it is long over due for a change. The fluid should be clear or transparent like water. Some discoloration is ok. Brake fluid absorbs water over time and can freeze in the brake lines in the winter months. Power steering fluid should be either clear like water or bright red. Some discoloration is ok. But if it looks and smells bad than it needs to be changed too.

How to reset change oil soon light

Oil Life Monitor Resetting (KD, KE)
Description
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 12 500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL message may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12 500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.
The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed.
Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed.
Resetting Procedure
Press the INFORMATION SKIP button on the DIC control panel in order to display the OIL LIFE LEFT message.
Press and hold the RESET NO button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.

My pontiac g6 2007 says the oil is at 20% what does this mean

That is your Oil Life indicator. That means that is is almost time for an oil change. If your oil has recently been changed, then it was not reset when the oil was changed.

This information is covered in the Owner's Manual for your vehicle on page 211.

If you do not have an Owner's Manual, You can get a free PDF version at the link below.

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP and I just got the oil changed 2 weeks ago and I believe they reset the Oil Change message, but now it is back on saying that I only have 3% oil life left Chang Oil Soon. ...

2 things to try depending on which system you have , While the vehicle is in Park, you need to hold down "info" and the enter (<-) key for a few seconds.. that will bring you into advanced options.. I believe oil reset is the first option that will show up. Just select that and it'll revert back to 100%. If that doesn't work on your car , then do this Most GM cars reset oil life meter by Key ON and depress the gas pedal 3 times in succession

When Jiffy Lube changed the oil in my 2009 Ford Expedition, they did not reset the "Change Oil" message in the instrument panel. Since I set out on a trip immediately after the service, I can't...

You can leave it,it is a gadget, not tied to any system

You should have an owners manual (still) on a 2009

Never go the Jiffy Lube
