How do I fix alternator

The best solution is to remove the alternator and take it to an auto electrical shop for repair. Repairing an alternator is not quick & easy especially without the correct test equipment etc.

How to replace an alternator in 2008 saturn astra

This repair is generally pretty straight forward. However, I would get a repair manual (Chiltons/Haynes) that covers your make/model/year. It will lead you through the procedure step-by-step (including little safety things like disconnecting the battery). Given the age of this car, I would go to parts house, with numbers from alternator in hand, get the correct alternator, the repair manual, and a new serpentine belt all at the same time. The problem may not even be the alternator. A worn out serpentine can make the alternator not work as it should. And have your battery checked (unless you're certain it's good. Such as you just bought it etc.) The repair manual helps you troubleshoot issues. And covers a lot of other stuff that helps you repair and maintain your car, both drive train and the interior.

Erratic voltage. Usually caused by a faulty voltage regulator in the alternator, but First things first test your battery and inspect all connections including positive and ground battery cables and the positive cable from the alternator to the battery. Assuming all connections/cables are then If you can find a shop that repairs alternators and starters bring your alternator in to them and have it repaired plus most auto parts stores test them if you cant find someone to repair it you will have replace the whole alternator.

Is replacing an alternator belt the same as replacing the alternator

Well the alternator is driven by a belt. You should be able to look at the alternator and tell if it has been replaced by how clean it is.
