Got me a complete manual for 199 jeep factory model and found location of each individual unit in question. Manual gives u possible solution to each code and repair and or replace. As a mechanic myself testing, trouble shooting and repair was not that difficult. Shift solenoid was very difficult to get to. Located under the head lamp passenger side.

Actually, the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid is located within the transmission housing that is easily accessible through the transmission oil pan. The TCC solenoid may vary in location dependent upon manufacture but generally it is located as aforementioned. It can cause your vehicle to stall if stuck open or close because it controls loads to the engine via your torque converter which is located between the vehicle's engine and transmission. Also, make certain that you attempt to change the transmission fluid and filter before changing the TCC solenoid because that may be your underlying issue. If not, simply reuse your fresh oil and change the TCC soleniod.

I have a 1999 Lincoln continental 4.6 V8 32 valve intake the car starts and the shifter will move into each gear with ease but,the car will not move what is wrong and how do I fix it?


if auto tranny run the fault codes as the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid is not working
if a manual then the clutch is not being allowed to engage . possibly blocked compensating port in master cylinder or jammed clutch cable
the worst scenario is that the pressure plate diaphragm has broken or the centre has been broken out of the clutch plate

Sounds like the lock up torque converter is slipping based on your description of the problem. i estimate roughly 1,250 dollars based on 400 dollars for a torque converter and fluids, and 10 hours labor at 85 an hour.

Yellow check engine light came on; code; P0741 refers to possible torque converter problem. car runs fine. what else could it be?


Audi code P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off, THIS IS IN MOST CASES A STUCK TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP CLUTCH, U MAY NOT EVEN NOTICE THIS AS ALL GEARS WILL WORK JUST NO TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP, U WILL NEED TO VERIFY THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT IS OK AND IF SO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER.

That is the torque converter clutch circuit. Have the torque converter switch and/or relay switch checked, or torque converter lock up switch.

1999 Continental Shudder when shifting into third gear.


It will be one of 2 things. It is either the lock up torque converter or a coil pack miss-fire.
You can tell if it is the lock up torque converter by lightly applying brakes with your other foot during the concern. If it goes away then it is the lock up torque converter. If it hasn't been doing this for to long then servicing it and putting an additive in it usually corrects it. However it takes about 75 to 100 miles to do so. If that doesn't cure it you will have to replace the torque converter and depending on how it looks maybe the stator support and the TCC solenoid.
If it is a miss fire then it will probably show up under mode 6 data on a scan tool and replacing that spark plug and coil pack should remedy that.
